Because of a record heatwave in England when we filmed the original #StarWars, most of the pilots wore only the top-half of their costume, attacking the Death Star wearing shorts. #TrueStory
@maineteacher I do have to say that a majority of the class came to the agreement that we as a society need to talk about these things rather than argue and point fingers. They agree that in sports today there is still major inequality. It was very interesting to see such different opinions!
@maineteacher Many explained that it's because they feel that African American players protesting are being disrespectful to veterans and politics shouldn't be in sports. They struggled grasping the idea that these protests are meant for bigger issues and that was not the intent.
@maineteacher 17/18 students agreed with this statement. However, when we started discussing how change is brought about through public conversation and protest in sports very quickly half of my students shifted their views.
@reedteaches Yes! I couldn't agree more, perhaps if students started at a younger age analyzing documents and even hearing the language used in them it wouldn't be so tough.
A3: I feel that I will face a challenge with my students explaining the language used in the Constitution, that's something I have found they struggle with. BUT, I am already looking for resources to help them digest the language and analyze the document! #socstudme
@madisonteacher We will be looking at the Iroquois Nations constitution and comparing it to the US constitution to identify similarities and talk about contributions from native societies prior to colonization. I never really did much in HS with #ConstitutionDay unfortunately
A1: My US History students will be in full swing looking at the Iroquois Nations constitution and comparing it to the US constitution to find similarities and explain how native nations contributed to our society prior to colonization! #socstudme#ConstitutionDay
@maineteacher It was an elective being offered for the first time this year and no one else wanted to teach it, I thought it was a really cool idea so I picked it up!
Day 2 of planning an AWESOME civic action project at the @Thomas_CIE summer institute to get my students actively instilling change in their community and nation! I'd love to share these ideas with anyone who is interested! #socstudme
Working on an interdisciplinary U.S. History unit during the @Thomas_CIE summer institute! Today was filled with great presentations on diversity, student-centered learning, and inquiry based instruction along with some wonderful networking opportunities! #socstudme
Freshman active citizenship projects are ready to present here at ELHS. Students have reached out to community members, school administration, and government officials to promote change in their communities! Super proud of all their hardwork. ✌#socstudme
A5: For all the new teachers or preservice teachers who aren't able to travel far this summer go to your local museums and historic sites! They is seriously a gold mine of resources right here in Maine!! #socstudme
