Last month we were delighted to welcome 17 new student planners, who will undertake a programme of work-based learning over two years in SG, supporting the flow of talent and qualified planners into roles within Government, as well as the wider planning service.
If you are interested in planning as a career then the Future Planners Programme might be for you. Details can be found below and we'd be grateful if you would share this opportunity.
We were at Heriot Satt university yesterday talking to students about our Future Planners Programme. Applications open on 24 February 2025. For more information see https://t.co/NJBqu4E890
Do you know someone who might want to become a planner? Sign up for an information session on Friday to hear about this exciting opportunity to work with us in the Scottish Government whilst studying for a postgraduate degree in planning.

Such sad news yesterday. Barbara was a huge influence on my career. I was lucky enough to have worked with her on RTPI and PAS committees/boards. She was a brilliant planner, and more than that she was super fun. I’ll really miss her.
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of our recent Chair Barbara Cummins who died yesterday (12 September) peacefully at home following a short illness. 1/2
Her last formal blog with us summarised her passion for planning, places and Edinburgh so we repost as our tribute to someone who gave so much to the city and Scotland.

Delighted to share in @PAS_tweets 30th anniversary celebrations last night at the Scottish Parliament. Such a fantastic organisation for which I’ve been proud to volunteer for the past 15 years, and have also served as a board member and Chair. Cheers to the next 30
Years!
Thanks to all who joined us last night in the Scottish Parliament to celebrate our 30th anniversary, especially to our sponsor and host @SarahBoyack. We were very pleased to receive the SPIA award & trophy 🏆 from @Ivan_McKee in his new ministerial role and his inspiring speech.
I’m here in Glasgow this morning reminiscing about being a “young” planner, and delighted to be taking part in the “where do planners end up” session as part of #SYPC24 @RTPIScotland today. A fab conference programme for the day focussing on Future Planners.
One of the main objectives of the #SYPC24 was inspiring #youngplanners to consider various roles within this sector. The panel session presented a diverse overviews of where you could end up. Great to hear about personal experiences, challenges and rewards.
Great to hear our Minister @JoeFitzSNP speaking this morning at the #SYPC24 @RTPIScotland acknowledging the important role young planners will play in our journey to net zero.
Beautiful setting for the @thewssociety Charities Conference @signetlibrary . Here with the Charity Manager and a fellow trustee of the Newark Trust this morning.
A milestone 20 years. Getting involved back in the early years of the network was so beneficial for my professional development and to meet a fabulous bunch of people who are now colleagues, stakeholders and friends. Thoroughly recommend all young planners get involved! #sypn
@RTPIScotland @MonicaLennon7@ScotParl@JoeFitzSNP@kirstymacari @RTPIPlanners @JenDivine2@RTPIYPs @VictoriaRTPI Congratulations @RTPIScotland on this milestone. The SYPN played a really important role in my professional development over the years with CPD and networking opportunities. A great bunch of planners have been involved over the years!
