A journey back to 2022 for a look at one of our favorite @Dolby ATMOS mix environments, created for Grammy Award winning producer, engineer, and mixer @RyanHewittMix
Located in the heart of Nashville's studio community, Ryan’s facility, Stratosphere, is home to three immersive mix suites, each designed around a singular philosophy: technical precision without sacrificing warmth, beauty, or inspiration. Our intent was never to be bold, but rather to disappear into the background and create the space for great art to be made. We'll be sharing the remaining suites soon.
Ryan's body of work speaks for itself, from Oasis and Red Hot Chili Peppers, to Noah Kahan and Blink 182, Smashing Pumpkins, and countless others. Beyond that, he has been a trusted friend, mentor, and championed of our team for over the years. His belief in our tribe has meant more than we can express, and it remains an honor every time he invites us to help shape another space.
From the beginning, the vision was to create a room that felt as inspiring as it was accurate. Natural light fills the space, softening what is often expected of technical environments. The palette remains intentionally restrained, allowing texture, and materiality to define the experience while performance quietly does the heavy lifting beneath the surface.
Much of the room's sophistication is intentionally hidden. Behind the fabric is a hybrid of bass trapping and diffusion, paired with a 13 speaker immersive monitoring system from our friends at @pmcspeakers_pro / @PMCSpeakers, anchored by their 6-2 XBD line, and surrounded by discreetly placed CI series speakers. Rather than becoming a distraction, the integration disappears into the treatments, allowing the focus to remain on the art, the natural light, and the sense of openness within the room.
As a complete retrofit into an existing space, every acoustical move was carefully considered to optimize imaging, time performance, and translation. The result is an immersive environment that feels remarkably effortless while delivering the precision Ryan depends on, allowing him to work without distraction and get lost in the details that matter.

Bathed in natural light and layered with understated technical intention, this production environment belonging to multi Grammy and Dove Award winning songwriter and producer Jonathan Smith reimagines what a modern recording studio can feel like.
Designed as both a high performance creative workspace and an inviting architectural retreat, the studio balances the precision of world class acoustic design with the openness and ease of a residential inspired environment. The result is a space that feels expansive, effortless, and deeply functional without ever appearing overtly technical.
The layout unfolds through a series of interconnected creative spaces, including a spacious Producer Suite, a dedicated amp / ISO booth, and a large Editing Suite capable of transforming into an additional live room when sessions demand flexibility. Behind the scenes, every room has been wired for full band live tracking, allowing the space to effortlessly shift between intimate writing sessions and large scale recording workflows.
From the beginning, the vision centered around creating a visually open production suite that could still perform within the expected metrics of a professional Control Room environment. Every decision was approached through the lens of balance, pairing architectural softness with acoustic accuracy, and refined material palettes with forward thinking building science.
NILES collaborated closely alongside the clients and their interior designer, leading the acoustical design, audio integration, and construction of all studio related aspects throughout the project. The process became deeply collaborative, shaped the collective creative vision, aesthetic instincts, and the desire to build a studio that felt distinctly personal rather than conventionally commercial.
Anchoring the Producer Suite is a monitoring system built around PMC 8-2s from our friends at @PMCSpeakers and @pmcspeakers_pro. Selected for both their scale and precision, the system delivers the clarity, depth, and translation required of a modern professional production environment while remaining effortlessly musical within the room.
The final result is a study in restraint and performance. A space where architecture, acoustics, and creativity exist in quiet alignment.

With framing, MEP, and insulation complete, acoustic treatments and finish work can finally begin as this Nashville backyard studio takes its final shape.
This project began as an exploration—what’s possible when overlooked space is given intention. Tucked above a three-car garage in the stunning Smoky Mountain town of Cashiers, North Carolina, this attic conversion became a true creative retreat.
Despite its compact footprint, the studio delivers remarkable accuracy. The vision was simple: create a destination where clients can step away from the pace of city life, drop their shoulders, immerse themselves in the surrounding landscape, and reconnect with the creative process. A space that invites both focus and ease, while maintaining a thoughtful continuity with the aesthetic language of the main lodge.
In collaboration with GC Custom House (@AVDGLLC), we were brought in to deliver seamless audio integration, precise acoustic isolation, and a balanced listening environment. Each room is fully isolated and anchored by carefully layered treatments—bass trapping, diffusion, and absorption—working in harmony. Full lite doors preserve a sense of openness without compromising performance.
As with many of our builds, the real work lives behind the walls. The VRF mechanical system is whisper quiet and meticulously tuned to meet strict studio noise floor requirements, while maintaining a comfortable and stable environment. You don’t hear it, but you feel it.
At the center of the room sits an highly integrated @ThisIsAPIaudio 2448 console, paired with PMC 6-2 monitors (@PMCSpeakers / @pmcspeakers_pro), delivering clarity and translation you can trust at the highest level.
This space does more than inspire visually—it performs. Whether producing, mixing, or simply exploring ideas, it offers a flexible sonic palette that adapts to the moment.
A thoughtful collaboration between NILES, GC Custom House (@AVDGLLC), and our friend @Kessler_Cuffman.

1️⃣ Stone Diffusion – The custom stonework isn’t just aesthetic—it acts as a natural diffuser, softening reflections for a more open, musical sound.
2️⃣ Bass-Trap Ceiling – 8–16" of concealed insulation above a stretched fabric ceiling provides low-end control and even response.
