“The truth of it is that there is no appropriate person for this role, because the role simply should not exist.”

❤️SHE MATTERS: ANNETTE BRENNAN!❤️
Annette Brennan was many things - a devoted teacher, a kind soul, an amazing human - a woman who deserved to live.
She was not -as some media outlets insisted - a wheelie bin. It's been so disheartening and enraging to watch headline writers call the callous killing and dumping of 67-year-old Annette as a 'wheelie bin murder'. Reducing women to objects is par for the course in media and I'm sick of it.
Annette is the 48th of 49 Australian women killed this year.
She was allegedly murdered between June 23 and July 2 at her home in Coolaroo, Victoria. A male known to her was charged overnight with Annette's murder. It's alleged the male ended her life, placed her in a recycling bin and left her body to be picked up by waste collectors. She was ultimately found in a recycling plant in Melbourne.
Annette - an English language teacher - had moved into her home just months ago. It's believed the male was her new housemate.
While a former student has spoken to the media about the woman she described as a 'second mum', there's been almost no outrage over Annette's death and certainly no public outpourings of grief. As is almost always the case, the older the murdered woman the more invisible she is. I hope Annette matters to you - as she matters to me.
RIP ANNETTE BRENNAN! ❤️

I document ALL unlawful deaths of women and children, regardless of perpetrator gender or relationship between the person killed and the accused. This means not every death is due to domestic and family violence. Australians are also killed by strangers, friends, colleagues, neighbours and other people known to them.

If you think the barbarity in Gaza is happening because of Judaism or Jewish identity that is YOUR antisemitism not mine. It is a weaponisation and hijacking of the Abrahamic faith by Zionist ideologues, including Zionist Jews, and that ideology manifesting in genocide for 76 years now is what we must eradicate and give zero "cultural safety" for.
It looks like this piece I wrote is never going to age.

On International Women's Day I remember all the amazing doctors, nurses, wounded patients, mothers and sisters of wounded patients that I was blessed to work with and serve in Gaza during this war. You are the rock that will shatter this genocidal project.

2. So imagine the work these Zionists- in the arts, academia, those involved in progressive spaces, in law, in professions that require compassion, empathy, critical thinking- imagine the work they have to consciously do to ignore the fact of settler colonial apartheid rule, the fact of occupation, the fact of illegal, brutal siege, the fact Gaza was declared uninhabitable, to conclude ‘they hate us’.
This is why every person who identifies as a Zionist is outing their racism. Because the core logic of racism is dehumanisation.
7 October. A short🧵
1. How much work would a Zionist need to have done in their life to ignore the humanity and plight of Palestinians in order to be shocked by 7 October? Think about it carefully.
The genuine shock and surprise by Zionists at Hamas’ attacks.
The shock wasn’t confected. Truly it was viscerally felt. They were stunned and indignant. How dare Hamas attack. I’m not talking about the nature of the attacks. The shock wasn’t over the extent of violence. It was the fact that Hamas attacked. It was genuinely experienced as unprovoked. And we know it was about the fact of the attack itself because the reaction was 'they attacked us because they hate us because we are Jewish.'
When we are in day 43 of a live-streamed genocide this is exactly the kind of intelligent, critical, valuable opinion we need the @smh to platform. Well done @parnellpalme you've done your White woman species proud.
For weeks, the media made sure Gaza's astounding suffering – daily bombing of children and families, mass ethnic cleansing, genocide – shared the billing with (or more often got second billing after) the story of the shockwaves for Israel from Hamas' October 7 attack.
As the toll of Palestinian casualties in Gaza started to eclipse the Oct 7 attack by orders of magnitude, the media still made sure to 'balance' its coverage with a prominent Israel story. That often involved running a piece referencing weeks-old events ahead of coverage of the horrors unfolding that day in Gaza.
Now six weeks in, as almost every Palestinian family is ethnically cleansed and their homes destroyed, hospitals don't function and the encaged population lacks food and water, and there are no places to hide from the bombs, the media is treating the story of Gaza as stale. Coverage is perfunctory. Gaza barely makes the front pages any longer.
It's all a far cry from the Ukraine war, which dominated the news agenda for more than a year.
It's almost as if the media thinks Palestinians don't count – just as Palestinians haven't really counted for the West for the past 75 years of their oppression by Israel.
People have shown more outrage over fake beheaded babies than they have real NICU babies dying, slow, excruciating, one by one, because of Israel's brutal bombardment and cutting off electricity.
I teach a course on anti-colonial archives. We read texts, recipes, poems, letters, memoirs. We watch films, listen to freedom songs. We talk about dreams, food, dust & soil as history. For centuries, millions of people on this earth have stood up for a world free of colonialism.
I can't believe that 11,000 +Palestinians have been carpet bombed, massacred, subject to genocide and @PatsKarvelas has made @iamthenas the bad guy. @abcqanda did you get the talking points from the lobby?
A reminder of what we mean when we say from the river to the sea Palestine will be free. My liberation anthem poem. We will all be free. #Gazagenocide#israel#Palestine
Being Australian Canadian Palestinian, means I get to be othered and racially discriminated against in two old settler colonies, while watching my homeland Palestine suffer daily brutality at the hands of a third younger settler colony. It is clear Australia and Canada are not sorry for what they did to their indigenous populations, evident in the way they fall over themselves offering their undying love for Israel. The white supremacy and racism still lurks thick beneath the surface. #Israel #Canada #Australia #Palestine #INDIGENOUS #alwayswasalwayswillbe
Israel has broken SIXTY TWO United Nations Resolutions with absolutely no consequences.
Iraq broke two and got invaded and destroyed by the United States for 8 years.
