Revolut recently banned using GrapheneOS without any justification. They're falsely claiming to do be doing it for security reasons. In reality, they're enforcing licensing Google Play. Revolut doesn't enforce security standards. It runs on Android 9 with no patches since 2018.
$1,000 dropped into a stock in June 1983 is worth over $2 million today. The pitch was given for free that morning in a tent in Aspen by a 28-year-old whose flagship product was still seven months from launch. Warren Buffett would not touch the stock for another thirty-three years. Nobody from Wall Street was in the room.
His name was Steve Jobs. The talk was the International Design Conference in Aspen. Theme that year: The Future Isn't What It Used to Be. A few hundred designers, most of whom had never touched a personal computer, sat in a canvas tent for an hour while Jobs read them a list of things that did not exist yet.
He described the iPad. Twenty-seven years before Apple shipped one. He described software you could download from anywhere in the world to any device. The App Store was twenty-five years away. He described wireless networks that would let any computer talk to any other without a wire. WiFi was sixteen years away. He described the World Wide Web. It was six years away. He described all of it inside one hour.
The Macintosh was seven months from launch. IBM owned the industry. Retail chains had started stacking Apple boxes in back stockrooms. Wall Street analysts were writing that Apple would not survive the decade. Apple traded that morning at roughly ten cents a share on a split-adjusted basis. It is above two hundred dollars now. That is a two-thousand-bagger.
Nobody in the tent wrote it up. Nobody on the Street picked it up. The tape sat in a designer's closet for the next thirty years. It surfaced online in 2012. Warren Buffett bought his first Apple share in 2016.
"The personal computer will be to the mind what the bicycle is to the body."
The trade was never Apple. The trade was believing a twenty-eight-year-old with an unshipped product about a world that would not arrive for a quarter century. Every generational winner sounds like a maniac until the tape catches up. The people who compound in markets are the ones who can hear the difference before the market prints it.
Jobs is dead. Apple is worth three and a half trillion dollars. The tape is fifty-four minutes long and completely free.
The vision was free. The willingness to trust it before the crowd is the entire edge.

Countries are passing laws requiring state ID in order to use social media ("protecting kids" is the pretext), but the real effect is to track everyone online .
It upsets some when I say it, but @TaylorLorenz has been one of the few reporting on and warning about this danger.
