The thing about liberals somehow failing to idolise Messi like Maradona has nothing to do with football. They loved Maradona for his politics. His footballing success meant that global left had found a truly global icon who is not directly into politics.

The Trinamool Congress ceased to exist as a political party in 2011 itselt. They worked more as a venture capitalist firm. Anyone could go to Kalighat (eventually Camac Street) and pitch a business, mostly illegal and in informal sector.
