This is welcome. But we also need systemic change. Right now, less than 2% of the billions we spend on development aid reaches the people who need it most. That is one of the biggest reasons so many people have lost faith in aid. We have to change that. 🤞🏾
For this week’s newsletter I asked locals for all their top recommendations for the best places to eat and stay at beaches within easy reach of London. link in comments
It’s truly extraordinary that we’re a G7 country and, days before a new Prime Minister takes office, we still have no idea who will hold the great Offices of State or what their priorities will be.
Personally, I hope we see a reset at the FCDO. The damage done to both the department and the UK’s international standing over the past two years has been significant.
But regardless of politics, it’s worrying that we head into Monday with so much uncertainty about the direction of government
Great piece by Somaliland's "Grande Dame" Edna Adan Ismail on its fundamental "raison d'etre" and why it will never compromise its independence. It reflects the nation's fierce resolve to go its own way and chart its own destiny. Bravo!

He is an unspeakably revolting man, and he should be named and utterly shamed. But charging him over these tweets is a yet another land grab by an increasingly authoritarian state.
@VotePursglove@HanadDarwish And let’s not forget that Labour will need Tory votes to pass its new immigration bill, because many of its own MPs do not support it. Once again, the Home Secretary is doing things she opposed for years. 🤷🏽♀️
@HanadDarwish@VotePursglove We are not blind. This Government is in favour of reform they blocked for years when it comes to immigration. So let’s not act like Labour have done something new.
@HanadDarwish@VotePursglove Most of these falls are the result of policies already set in motion by the last government, alongside Labour now doing things they opposed in opposition. So let’s not pretend this is all down to some magical move by Labour.
The tragic death of Ann Widdecombe, my predecessor as MP for Maidstone and the Weald, has united people from across the political spectrum in mourning and in gratitude for her dedicated service and contribution to public life.
In the light of this, colleagues from across party lines have joined together in support of an Early Day Motion to pay their respects to Ann, and call for a commemorative installation at Parliament.
Today, I joined my colleague @PeterABedford MP in writing to Mr Speaker, following a meeting with him yesterday, to ask for his support in campaigning for this physical marker of remembrance, and you can read our letter below.
There was a very different tone at PMQs this afternoon for Keir Starmer’s final session as Prime Minister, with a palpable sense of unity and good humour across the House.
@KemiBadenoch showed a wonderful side of her character today; her sharp wit and kind-hearted nature were on full display. It was a real touch of class to see her final question focus on the love and support the Prime Minister’s family has given him throughout his tenure.
While Kemi remained effective in her role - challenging the PM on whether his successor will face Parliament before the summer recess and reminding us all how quickly political fortunes can change - the exchange was notably respectful.
I have not always agreed with the Prime Minister’s politics. However, today he answered questions in a sincere and dignified way, reflecting the integrity with which he has approached the role.
I want to wish him and his family the very best for the future.
A spokesperson for anyone black who is supporting England tonight posts....
It's weird cos I doubt if anyone I know in that category has the first idea about who she is!
Or when she put herself forward to represent them!!
