Love principled people.
Before Hungary's Viktor Orbán and the GD's Irakli Kobakhidze embraced each other and chose the same political course, Orbán openly opposed "Georgian Dream" coming to power.
4 days before Georgia's 2012 parliamentary elections, Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán visited Georgia, expressed his support for the country's third president, Mikheil Saakashvili and addressed the Georgian people:
"Allow me to take this opportunity to convey the greetings of the Hungarian people to the freedom-loving Georgian nation…
I would like to ask you to keep your country on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration…
Do not turn back, that would be a real mistake".
In 2012, the pro-Western party of Mikheil Saakashvili was defeated and the pro-Russian "Georgian Dream" came to power.
Over time, both Viktor Orbán and "Georgian Dream" gradually shifted toward a more Russia-aligned course and the political landscape settled accordingly.
In 2024, during the parliamentary elections in Georgia, which were rigged by "Georgian Dream", Viktor Orbán stated:
"I congratulate Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and "Georgian Dream" on their landslide victory in the parliamentary elections. The people of Georgia know what is best for their country and today their voice has been heard!".
