The first day of Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp 2026 witnessed enthusiastic participation by school students across Punjab.
Activities were focused around greetings, basic expressions, alphabets, numbers and simple conversations in different Indian languages. Through these engaging experiences, students got an opportunity to explore the linguistic diversity of India and learn how people communicate across regions.
These activities are helping students build connections and celebrate the spirit of #EkBharatShreshthaBharat.

Day-long workshop on UDISE+ and Performance Grading Index (PGI) held in Shillong, Meghalaya
Discussions focused on strategic importance of data reported by the State on UDISE+ and its implications on various education-related indicators.
Deputy Director General, Department of School Education & Literacy, Dr. Pankaj K.P. Shreyaskar, highlighted UDISE+'s role in data-driven educational planning. He presented key insights from Meghalaya’s UDISE+ 2024–25 data and discussed strategies for improving PGI performance and educational outcomes across the State.
Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, Shri Vijay Kumar Mantri, along with senior officials, attended in the Workshop.

On 15th May 2026, an MoU was signed in the presence of Shri @sanjayjavin, Secretary, DoSEL between the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, Government of India and the State of West Bengal represented by Dheeraj Sahu, Additional Secretary and Binod Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, respectively, to implement #PMSHRI Schools initiative across West Bengal.
Aligned with the vision of #NEP2020, this initiative focuses on transforming existing schools into model institutions of excellence. These schools will serve as exemplar schools, guiding and supporting other nearby schools to enhance learning outcomes, innovation and holistic education.

Hon’ble Union Minister of Education, Shri @dpradhanbjp, launched the School Management Committee (SMC) Guidelines 2026 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that the Guidelines will play a pivotal role in translating the vision of #NEP2020 into action across the country’s schools, while strengthening community participation and shared responsibility in education. He called for SMCs to evolve into a people’s movement for improving educational outcomes.
The event was attended by Shri Ashish Sood, Education Minister, Government of NCT of Delhi; Shri Gajender Yadav, Minister of School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh.
Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy; Shri Ashok Kumar Meena, Secretary, Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation; Smt. Archana S. During the national-level webinar on #EarthDay2026, organised by Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, under the aegis of #EcoClubsforMissionLife, an awareness video was showcased to address the escalating environmental concerns.
With the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” the video sensitised school students to the triple planetary crisis viz biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution. It also encouraged children to adopt mindful consumption, e-waste reduction, energy conservation and tree plantation.
School students were exhorted to adopt simple daily practices, including avoiding plastic use, carrying zero-waste tiffins and switching off appliances in classrooms when not in use to protect Mother Earth.

On 22nd April, 2026, Shri @sanjayjavin, Secretary, Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL), chaired a national-level webinar on #EarthDay2026 under the aegis of #EcoClubsforMissionLiFE on the theme “Our Power, Our Planet". He emphasised importance of maintaining ecological balance and raised concerns over increasing pollution, growing climate change challenges and loss of biodiversity.
In a whole of government approach, Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, addressed the students and underscored the importance of sustainable use of resources. Shri Kartikeya V. Sarabhai, Founder and Director, Centre for Environment Education (CEE), delivered an insightful presentation highlighting concerns such as ocean degradation and microplastic pollution. Prof. Chetan Singh Solanki, Founder, Energy Swaraj Foundation, advocated for sustainable energy practices and responsible consumption patterns. Dr. Amarpreet Duggal, Joint Secretary, DoSEL, outlined actionable steps for school students to adopt eco-friendly practices.
The webinar witnessed enthusiastic participation of 1,44,689 viewers nationwide.

On 31st March 2026, Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education launched the Career Cards for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) at Kartavya Bhawan-2, New Delhi. He emphasised the vision of Hon'ble Minister of Education Shri Dharmendra Pradhan ji in implementing the mandate of NEP 2020 through inclusive classrooms. By extending opportunities for equitable career pathways, lifelong learning and active participation in the workforce for CwSN, DoSEL seeks to ensure that no learner is left behind in the journey towards Viksit Bharat.
This initiative has been developed by UNICEF in collaboration with Pratham Education Foundation, NCERT, PSSCIVE and National Institutes for Disabilities. Senior officials from the Ministry, autonomous bodies including CBSE, KVS, NCERT, NVS and representatives from UNICEF were present during the launch.
These Career Cards are designed to advance inclusive career awareness and guidance for CwSN across all categories of disabilities.

An orientation session for Government of India officers on upcoming PM SHRI school visits was held on 13th February, 2026 to brief them on the PM SHRI Scheme and the objective of the visits — to review how #NEP2020 is being implemented in #PMSHRISchools across States and UTs.
Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), emphasised the importance of ensuring quality education in PM SHRI schools. He highlighted the need for effective governance at the block and district levels and stressed the role of empowered headmasters in strengthening overall school functioning.
Shri Dheeraj Sahu, Additional Secretary, DoSEL, spoke about the PM SHRI Scheme, outlined the review points for field visits and presented the portal to be used for uploading inspection reports. In the coming days, Joint Secretary-level officers will undertake school inspection visits to States and UTs to review the functioning of PM SHRI schools, with a focus on the implementation of NEP 2020.
