Startups focused on property technology (aka #proptech) are clustering in NYC, a trend that makes sense given the city’s status as the nation’s largest metro #realestate market, its deep talent pools, and ready supply of investors, writes @bayareawriter

Almost everything I've learned about startups:
* Aim to get to cash flow positive early
* Don't overly optimize for private market valuations
* Build a great team and culture
* Make sure the business model *works*
* Focus, focus, focus. Dilution of effort will crush you
I’ve learned a lot about giving advice over the past 5 years at YC (still more to learn). When I started I had a very formulaic / tactical view of how startups succeed. Over time and after seeing over 1000 startups go through YC that has changed.
I'm heartbroken about what's happening in my country. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. It's time for good people with different views to stop finger pointing and come together to address this violence for the good of our country.
What truly makes our country great is its diversity. I’ve seen that beauty in so many ways over the years. Whether we are born here or seek refuge here, there’s a place for us all. We must remember it’s not my America or your America. It’s our America.
Today is my 101st day alcohol free, which is officially the longest stretch since high school.
I’ve been feeling great - I’ve been able to meditate and workout every day, have more energy during the day, and been able to get in touch with my full range of emotions.
I’ve always seen America as the original startup: started out by trying something different, lots of things were fucked up in the beginning, iterated quickly (for a country), and has provided tremendous opportunity for its citizens.
Happy 4th of July!
