I am hiring a PhD student! For anyone interested in mass spec, atmospheric chemistry, forests, chambers and Zeppelins. Please forward to any potential candidates! https://t.co/5Ptmzp9Hpb @AtmChemAeroJobs
Been wandering around CERN🇪🇺🇨🇭, jetlagged out of my mind, for a few hours now. It's got real ramshackle, mad-scientist design energy. Very here for it.
New from @Nirvan_AQ in #ESATMOS
Chamber experiments show how different Cl and OH radical sources shift the products of m-xylene oxidation in the atmosphere.
Read the #OpenAccess article now.

New paper in @EnvSciRSC w/ Mrinali Modi, Leif Jahn, and @HildebrandtRuiz! Using different radical precursors (chlorine/nitryl chloride/hydrogen peroxide) impacts gas and particle phase products of m-xylene oxidation: https://t.co/jTuJopb2rC
Ok we all wanna bring back mammoths with cloning, but there are some weirdos I think we should also consider.
PROCOPTODON: giant pug-faced kangaroo with forward-facing eyes. We think it walked instead of hopping. Early Australians met it & I want to feel what they felt
@Kaki_4 @Poppendieck Thank you! I’d be surprised if N95 style carbon masks would be effective? Very small mass of carbon in the filter, I would think (and rapid breakthrough no matter what)! Backflushing might be helpful.
We didn’t test these! But I would hazard similar source/sink behavior would occur! Some particular reactions or rates would depend on material thickness, surface area, and composition of course!
Leif has already written about another class of cleaners from this study (https://t.co/TqIkwnCdF4) and Pearl will be publishing on hydrogen peroxide observations as well! Keep an eye out!
The first paper from my PhD was published in @EnvSciTech! We studied the interaction of bleach emissions with surgical and KN95 face masks and found interesting adsorptive and reactive behavior! Basically, replace masks often during chemical handling! https://t.co/5wNcqFuMNe
This was a collaborative project with @MisztalPawel's group (@daniel_blomdahl), the Novoselac group (@TangMengjia), and @AbuePearl and Dr. Leif Jahn! Advisement from Profs David Allen and @CorsIAQ as well. Glad everyone can read about how we spent year 1 of the pandemic!
@Poppendieck@CorsIAQ@JimRosenthal4 What are your test chemicals, if you can share? We had a photo-oxidation filter company that was obsessed with testing small organic VOC removal (<C4) a couple years back (since they might be better at that than activated carbon).
