AI coding agents can write a feature in an afternoon.
The hard part is proving which spec they followed, which files they touched, and who approved the release.
I built AEGIS to make that the default. Open source, for GitHub Copilot and Claude Code. A thread:
@EntireHQ@HaimantikaM Sessions answer how the agent got there. For review I also want the intent written down first: an approved spec and the work package the commit belongs to. Then the reviewer checks the diff against what was asked, which is faster than reading the whole session.
@Sagarvd01 Agreed on the last line. A model approving another model's calls is still judgment inside the loop. The layer I trust under it is deterministic: a hook that checks every write against the paths the task declared and denies the rest, whatever the prompt said.
@stretchcloud Good question to lead with. The pattern that holds up for me: approve the spec before any code, give each agent a work package with declared paths, and block writes outside them with a hook. A named person signs the release. AEGIS works this way, if a comparison helps.
@bcherny Per-person setups suit individuals. For teams, the next question is how to share one reviewed baseline, so every developer starts from the same guardrails. Is a shared team mod on the roadmap?

The guardrails run outside the model.
A readiness gate blocks code until the spec is complete. A hook stops an agent writing outside the paths its work package declared. A reviewer reruns the checks. AEGIS never deploys by itself.
