Isotope geochemist interested in the distribution and behavior of slab-derived fluids and their relationship to earthquake occurrence and water resources.

Two years have passed since a junior colleague from my university lab passed away far too young. Around the time I heard the news, this song was playing on my car radio. This rendition still resonates with me the most.

A paper authored by an M2 student under my research supervision has been published. The paper shows that hot spring waters in the forearc region of young hot plate subduction contain slab-derived fluids not only in specific locations such as Arima, but also everywhere.

A supervised student Zandvakili-san will present at Goldscmidt Confference on 22 Aug. It is about the possibility that the decrease in the groundwater Na/K ratio before a major earthquake may be due to the release of CO2 fluid.

A paper by first author Zandbakili-san (my supervising student) has been published. It is the result of a study of Li-Sr isotopes in the hot spring water of Matsushiro, famous for its earthquake swarms.
