Thrilled that our work "A Multifaceted Look at Starlink Performance" won the 2025 ANRP!
Huge thanks to Hendrik Cech (awardee) & co-authors Andrew Ferguson, Rohan Bose, Mahesh Marina, & Jörg Ott. Excited to see satellite networking in the spotlight. Congrats to all awardees! 🚀
We're pleased to announce that the winners of the 2025 Applied Networking Research Prize are Jacob Ginesin, Saksham Agarwal, Hendrik Cech, Haarika Manda, Changjie Wang, and Henry Birge-Lee.
Look out for their award talks at #IETF meetings later this year! https://t.co/crn8FskxBc

TTFB is a notoriously difficult performance metric, because it has so many different definitions and nuances.
New features like Early Hints and Speculation Rules only make that worse.
My new blog highlights these issues so you know what to keep in mind:

.@Jinghao_J presented the last piece of his PhD thesis at the very last USENIX ATC. #Rex is a new Kernel Extension framework that offers _both_ Safety and Usability (no language-verifier gap). If you're writing large, complex extension code and are struggling with eBPF, try Rex!

How can we bring near-zero-overhead elasticity to ML workloads? Check out “On-Demand Container Partitioning for Distributed ML”. Our answer is 2DFS that lets images be sliced (& updated) on-the-fly while staying 100% OCI compatible. [1/3]
🎓 Giovanni Bartolomeo will present 2DFS on Wednesday at 2 pm in Boston. Come see containers that adapt to your #DistributedML pipeline!
Code & artifacts already on GitHub and fully-reproducible.

Really sad to see ATC die. I related more to it than OSDI/SOSP as the venue encouraged "hacky" research outside of mainstream systems topics.
I am glad we will be present at this ATC to present "On-Demand Container Partitioning for Distributed ML".
This will be our swan song.
Sad to see the sunset of @usenix ATC. It owns some of my favorite systems research like UVM, QEMU, DTrace, ZooKeeper, Raft, not to mention Sendmail, NFS, Kerberos, X, Tcl, etc.
It loses its identity in recent years, but is still among the most hacky conferences I truly enjoy.
Another feather in this award-winning work: the full version has been accepted in USENIX Annual Technical Conference (ATC) 2025 with an acceptance rate of 15%. Many congratulations to my co-authors 👏🥳
⏱️ Stay tuned for more details and our fully OCI-compliant code.
