An IIT-educated engineer from Tamil Nadu got tired of this problem.

So he built an app called ‘Super Tatkal’.

The app reportedly saved precious seconds by pre-filling passenger details during IRCTC booking.

For many users, it felt like a game changer.

Reports say the app crossed 1 lakh users.

But then the story changed completely.

In 2020, RPF arrested him.

Railways said the software gave users an unfair advantage in Tatkal booking and violated railway rules.

Supporters argued: He didn’t hack IRCTC… He only made the process faster.

One app. One arrest. And one question that divided opinions across India:

Was he fixing a broken system… or breaking the rules?

A govt can build systems, bins, cleaners, penalties, but it cannot track millions of individual actions in real time. Cleanliness is a daily, personal act; without basic public discipline, even the best infra fails.

Take Manali. A public phone charging station was installed for tourist convenience, and within no time it turned into a dumping spot.

If citizens don’t comply at the point of action, no amount of post-cleaning can keep up. Economically, enforcement has limits: costs rise linearly, while careless behavior scales exponentially. It’s like a hospital, doctors can treat disease, but if patients doesn't care about hygiene, no system can keep them healthy.

The only guaranteed fix is danda and heavy fines. But in a democracy, issues with low electoral payoff rarely get that kind of sustained priority.

People avoid govt schools despite paying taxes and an education cess, because the system has failed to earn their trust. Private schools exploit this compulsion. With no real alternatives, parents are squeezed and intimidated.

Here, a principal from a reputed private school in Hardoi is berating parents for buying books from a cheaper shop instead of the school’s designated vendor. The insulting tone, “shut up,” “naam kaat do”, says it all.

Almost everyone with power in India abuses it to bully those without it.

Delhi Police busted a fake Sensodyne toothpaste unit, seizing 130 kg of fake harmful chemical paste and thousands of tubes (see images). An exact copy of the original!

Earlier, fake products were crude copies with lookalike names (Adidas-Abibas), sold by small shopkeepers, so informed buyers could spot them easily. Now, scammers are producing identical replicas and selling them on e-commerce platforms as genuine products.

What’s real and what’s fake, no one can say for sure. Wish we need a reliable agency to verify them and make us feel safe.
