A few years ago, when I did my first fat-loss journey, the biggest mistake I made was doing almost zero cardio.

I focused only on diet, strength training, and steps. And yes, this was a mistake. I trained every part of my body except my heart.

During the entire journey, I barely ever took my heart rate above 150. I didn't run. I didn't cycle. I didn't box. I didn't jump. The problem was that I got lean. I got abs. I looked my best in T-shirts and even shirtless. But whenever I had to do something that suddenly raised my heart rate, I would get tired very quickly.

Please learn from my past mistake. Don't fall for coaches or programs that promote "lose weight without any cardio" as if that's the ideal approach.

Yes, you can lose weight without doing a single cardio activity. You can even address obesity without cardio. But just because you can lose weight without cardio doesn't mean you should completely ignore cardiovascular fitness.

Strength matters.
Muscle matters.
Body composition matters.
Steps and general movement matter.
But cardiovascular fitness matters too.

Getting lean and getting fit are not the same thing. Don't train every part of your body and forget to train your heart.

When you constantly step in with the next activity, kids never learn how to drop into deep, self directed play.

The discomfort of boredom is actually GOOD for them. When a child is never allowed to feel bored, they learn that low stimulation is an emergency that requires an immediate distraction.

It might take 10 or 20 minutes of complaining, but eventually their imagination takes over. What they come up with on their own is almost always more creative than anything you could have handed them anyways.

Rescuing your child from boredom today just turns them into an adult who checks their phone every 45 seconds because they cannot tolerate 5 minutes of quiet focus.

Simping is when a man panders to a woman’s needs and desires while abandoning his own, usually in pursuit of her validation, affection, or approval.

You can cater to a woman, spoil her, prioritize her, and do things purely for her pleasure without “simping.” The difference is whether it comes from love and your own free will, or from fear that you need to please her to be worthy of her.

Not a new thing.
In the 1990s and the 2000s as well as currently in 2026, scores of Muslim girls do this before school, or college or anywhere they know they will get a few hours of reprieve from the oppressive cloth.

It is the same story in Iran, Afghanistan, if they can under the threat of the Taliban, even though the Taliban goons have ruled now women do not need both eyes to see where they are going.
It is the same story across decades, continents, in Libya, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Iraq, Saudi, Sudan, etc.

There is a reverse story too.
In the 1970s, my mother and aunt who had just started college in Srinagar city, would wear burqas to watch their favourite Dilip Kumar and Madhumala in theatres without their families knowing about it.

No matter which story makes it out of the Muslim world, the burqa/niqab/abaya is oppressive and Muslim women do not wear it by choice - the women defending Sharia and 'carrying water from Islamists' NOTWITHSTANDING!

And yet in all the discourse about the GIVA ad, the disagreements, the rebuttals, the quote tweets, the anger, the backlash, the retraction of the advertisement, the left and the right, centrists' debates, the accusations and calling out and the intense Indian style secularisation and the imported Western-style logic - there was no knifing, stabbing, beheading or Charlie Hebdo-kind massacre!
Fascinating, and something Muslims can learn about disagreeing without killing. Long way to go for 14 centuries-old ideas...

As a society we talk a lot about market risk, credit risk, geopolitical risk, ecological risk, industrial disaster risk, health risk, epidemic risk, and force majeure risk, but there's a baffling zero threat perception, cognizance, or preparedness when it comes to matrimonial risk.

It is more commonplace, more destructive, and more statistically probable than one can imagine because the the entire legal system would be stacked against you if you are a high-earning man.

It's a supreme irony that in a low-trust society where everyone is hardwired from childhood to be wary of strangers, and where overall loss aversion and risk avoidance runs very high, all caution, skepticism, and premonition is thrown to the wind when Mandap and Mehraru are concerned.

A very interesting sociological phenomenon.

There are 50 witness versions of the Manusmriti- most people clueless how different they are. Who speaks classical Sanskrit?
The infamous line -women dogs and drums are meant to be beaten which is oft quoted is not even from the Manusmriti. Dog isn’t even in the phrase. The Manusmriti languished in obscurity until the British decided to dig it up and use it to identify caste for administrative purposes. They went on to create a bhelpuri social order we are still trying to sort out when the truth is Hindus never created the form it exists today in the first place.
