Let's be very clear about this, for people who aren't familiar with the area.
This judgement happened within 9 days of the one in which the murderer of Henry Nowak was sent to prison, in the same building...
3 white English boys raped a young girl at knifepoint. Judge Nicholas Rowland let them walk free, telling them "you done very well."
No outrage from the "English patriots?" The "Reform voters?"
No outrage & even less news coverage. Why?
Because they are white, English rapists.
There are probably multiple reasons why Musk, Robinson et al haven't really mentioned this case, and why these protesters were within a street of where the controversial decision was made and it didn't come up, and why more people know about the murder.
They're all telling.
@ali_allon@MQuaminasBarnet@Glinner ...a prophet, for this sequence especially. Even at his worst, he was never that weird or messianic about his craft. And by his own account he didn't even think this way about this stuff until much later.
If you're going to hero worship the guy, respect his account of things.
@ali_allon@MQuaminasBarnet@Glinner ...It is a throwback joke to the idea that men find womens' underwear scary, that made sense especially because these were priests.
Linehan is pretty far gone now but at most points in his career I think he'd have been a bit embarrassed at someone breathily treating him like...
@MillieCheesey The inclusion of the copy of the Echo for... For what, proof of life?
Clothes shops have been arranged so men and boys sometimes nervously have to scurry past womens' underwear departments to get to other places for at least 45 years, these people have lost all sense of reality.
@QueenMab87 Absolutely agree. In my head you move into a second point I obsess about in the last part, because of course you're right about education relying on not treating students like clients, but in my area it feels like HE has been shifting into doing that for decades.
"The English defeated the Romans!"
Celtic Britons defeated the Romans, and then the Romans came back and took over Britain.
The Angles and Saxons were still living in Northern Germany. There was no England yet and no English.
People on here talk such rubbish.
@Markosia 'English' isn't an ethnic group but I think they use this language - possibly not on an individual level but as a broader cultural strategy - to whittle away at language and everyone else's ability to discuss any grown up ideas or concepts.
@_celia_bedelia_ ...(By dint of male gaze and gender inequality) But then they push too far with 'more revealing' because by definition bikinis explicitly cover more than the majority of male bathing options (which are all topless).
Turns an easy win into an 'actually, wait a secโฆ'
@_celia_bedelia_ ...They're always so compelled to oversell and undermine themselves, aren't they? It's like the radicalisation always comes with a side order of self-defeating over-confidence.
In this case I'd absolutely be sympathetic to the idea that bikinis are more exploitation-friendly...
Comedy palate cleanser. Robert Jenrick about to grandstand but reminded of his defection from one party to another this year is gold. The timing. First line great. Second line superb but crowd not recovered from the first to fully appreciate it ๐
@QueenMab87 (Thinking about it how the right talks about the Greens and Zack Polanski here right now, especially re solidarity with brown and black people (reduced to 'animals'), is starkly similar to old anti-semitic propaganda claiming Jews used Black people to undermine white culture.)
@QueenMab87 ...here in the UK, power reviles and persecutes anyone who protests against the state of Israel as anti-semitic, while allowing (and even generating) anti-semitic cartoons of left wing politicians.
