Dr Irufan Ahmed (@1ruf4n) - 1st Cambridge University PhD holder from Maldives (to my knowledge).

Most of you won't understand his thesis cause it's full of math. So, I'll break it down into simple English.

His thesis is about how fire (flames) behaves inside car engines. Cars burn fuel to run, but burning fuel causes pollution and wastes energy. To fix this, engineers try “lean burn” using more air and less fuel which is cleaner and more efficient.

But the problem is lean burn flames are harder to predict and control. So, he built several computer models that simulate how these flames behave in real engines.

His model helps design engines that are both greener and cheaper to run.

He's serving humanity. There are roughly 1.5 billion cars in the world, hundreds of cars in Maldives too. Even after PhD, he's still continuing his work abroad, which won't be possible in Maldives. So, by residing abroad, he's able to help Maldives too.

I also believe he did an MBA after his PhD, which is great. This is something I always tell people. MBAs are actually designed for people without a business background like engineers/doctors, not for those who already studied business. Sadly, in Maldives many students do a business degree and then another business degree (MBA).
