NSF has a cool program called ACCESS for helping academic researchers access computational resources. The application is surprisingly simple, and we got an "always-on" compute allocation (like an AWS computer) for exploring AI integration into research activities. The VanDusen lab's first virtual employee is installed and ready for duty. Let's see what AI can do!
Very interesting, but hypothesis generation and data analysis are not rate-limiting factors in science; data generation is the bottleneck. Eventually robotics will solve that, but for now, it's a golden age for researchers with strong wet-lab expertise.
Today we all lost our jobs.....
Three Nature papers showing that scientists in the conventional sense are obsolete
At least read the first one.... the AI replaced all things that the scientist does ....

I’m happy to share that my R35 MIRA proposal on forward genetic screening got funded! I’m particularly excited because this grant will support a lot of exploratory genetic engineering-related experiments, which are what I really enjoy.
Our pre-print on in vivo cardiac applications of CRISPR/AAV-mediated precise genome editing is now available! We present two examples of disease modeling in edited cardiomyocytes, and introduce the first massively parallel reporter assay to feature a library of precisely genome-integrated enhancers. https://t.co/F4jJI2TV4O
Our review article "Precise genome-editing in human diseases: mechanisms, strategies and applications" was published online today in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy. Take a look!

The latest and greatest: our article on maturational enhancers. Lots of people made big contributions - for me it was a fun opportunity to put massively parallel reporter assays to work.
