Thundering Herd + Cancel

80% jobs scheduled at 10AM?

→ Bounded queue (backpressure)
→ Jitter on nextRunTime
→ Auto-scale on queue depth/age

Cancel RUNNING task?
future.cancel(true) → interrupts thread Task must check isInterrupted() to stop early 🛑

Zombie Tasks + Cron Drift :
Pod crashes mid-execution?
→ Task stuck RUNNING forever

Fix: Reconciliation job
Find RUNNING tasks older than threshold
→ mark FAILED, notify, reschedule

Cron drift?
nextRunTime = basis scheduledAt not now() ✅

Multiple pods, one task = double execution
Fix 1: Optimistic locking
UPDATE task WHERE version=X → only 1 wins

Fix 2: Redis distributed lock
SETNX lock:task:{id} EX 30
Other pods skip if key exists

set initia TTL > expected task runtime.
Heartbeat extend TTL > task duration

Entities that matter:

Task → status, nextRunTime, cronExpression
TaskExecution → every run logged

Flow:
Scheduler polls → Executor runs → logs execution

States:
PENDING→RUNNING→COMPLETED/FAILED
RECURRING never completes, reschedules ♻️
