🐾 Abandoned and starving, this dog is finally safe and getting the care she deserves.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida — Arriana Washington, 19, of Port Orange, arrested after police say she abandoned a severely malnourished, emaciated female dog on a neighborhood street. The tan-and-white dog was found in extremely poor health, barely holding on, before being rescued and taken in for care. 💔

Thanks to a social media post by police, witnesses came forward, helping officers identify and locate Washington. Now, the focus turns to the dog’s recovery and finding her the loving, safe future she should have had all along. 🐶❤️

Spent the day with volunteers on Skid Row in Los Angeles who rescue dogs from horrific conditions as they are often abused/neglected by drug addicts, sold for money, and even used to test drugs to avoid overdoses.

I spoke at length today with Hachi’s owner, and the conversation was absolutely heartbreaking.

She went to court believing this would be handled like a minor citation, similar to a traffic ticket. Instead, she says it was clear from the moment she arrived that the decision to euthanize Hachi had already been made.

The ruling was issued by Judge Phyliss Ross in Rosenberg, Texas.

According to the owner and multiple witnesses, the neighbor involved has threatened to kill Hachi since the day he moved into her home over a year ago, simply because he dislikes the breed. There are witnesses who have seen the neighbor strike Hachi on prior occasions.

On the day of the “scratch,” the owner’s employee reportedly witnessed the neighbor strike Hachi with a stick, after which Hachi scratched the neighbor. The owner maintains this was not a bite, and the neighbor did not seek medical treatment. She also disputes a photo the neighbor later presented in court, stating it did not reflect the injury from that day.

The owner is an esthetician who runs a busy business from her home, with clients coming and going regularly. Hachi has been around hundreds of people, including clients, family, children, and other animals including dogs, cows, and chickens, without a single prior incident of aggression. No history. No pattern. Just this one incident involving a neighbor with a documented history of hostility toward the dog.

Believing she would simply pay a fine and move on, the owner pled guilty, wanting the ordeal to be over. She says she was completely blindsided when Judge Phyliss Ross ordered Hachi to be euthanized.

What was also disturbing was the tone in the courtroom. She recalls the judge and prosecutor coldly and LOUDLY discussing, “How will we dispose of THE BODY?” and “How much will it cost to dispose of THE BODY?”

This is a dog. A family pet. A living being.

Now Hachi, who was loved and safe in a home, is sitting alone in a cold animal shelter, isolated and facing euthanasia. To make matters even more heartbreaking, today is the anniversary of the unexpected death of her husband.

I drove 500 miles to Los Angeles to rescue a German Shepherd who was red listed for euthanasia.

The shelter told me he was adoptable.
They approved it.
They walked the dog out to me.
I was filming. We were about to load him into the van.

Then I was stopped.

They pulled me aside and said “there was a mistake.”

A clerical error.

Someone entered his behavioral score wrong in the system, which is why he was ever listed as adoptable in the first place.

Once they realized their mistake, they reversed the adoption.

And now, because they corrected their paperwork, they’re going to kill him anyway.

I work with difficult dogs all the time.
This dog is not aggressive.

He’s terrified, stressed, and stuck in a concrete nightmare.

Call Sergeant Vega at 562-658-2085 and ask why dog A5745484 is being euthanized because of a data entry error.

This is what “process over life” looks like.
This is what bureaucracy does when no one pushes back.
