DOES AN EMPLOYEE EVER HAVE THE RIGHT TO HIT A CUSTOMER?
There’s a point where customer service ends and personal safety begins.
Customers can be rude, disrespectful, and downright abusive. But does that give an employee the right to get physical?
My position is simple: Words alone don’t justify throwing punches. But if a customer physically attacks an employee, that employee has every right to defend themselves.
And let’s not forget, employers have a responsibility to protect their workers, too.
The customer isn’t always right, but neither is the employee. There’s a difference between losing your temper and defending yourself.
