The second day of the Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) Leadership & Governance Induction Programme brought newly elected youth leaders together for practical discussions on leadership, advocacy, inclusion, safeguarding and opportunities across Rwanda’s agribusiness sector.
Day Two focused on strengthening the leaders’ capacity to represent young people in agriculture, influence policy and contribute to the transformation of Rwanda’s agribusiness sector.
One of the key sessions was delivered by Lucia Zigiriza Senior Partners Coordination Officer at @AGRA_Africa (Rwanda) who challenged the newly elected representatives to go beyond leadership titles and deliver measurable impact in agriculture.
She called for a generation of young people who are skilled, innovative and passionate about agriculture, with the ability to contribute to food security today while building sustainable agricultural systems for the future.
“We need youth who are skilled, innovative and passionate about agriculture to feed today and sustain tomorrow.”
Leadership and organisational development were also central to the day’s programme. Noel, Chief Executive Officer of Umutanguha Finance Company, led a session on leadership, providing participants with practical perspectives on effective leadership, responsibility and decision-making.
The programme also explored youth advocacy for inclusive, safe and sustainable agribusiness. An AGRA safeguarding and inclusion specialist facilitated a session on advocacy, inclusiveness and social safeguarding, highlighting the importance of creating agribusiness spaces where young people can participate safely and meaningfully.
Participants also learned about opportunities to improve market access and inclusion in Rwanda’s horticulture sector through a session led by representatives from HEAR, focusing on the project Enhancing Market Access and Inclusivity in Rwanda’s Horticulture Value Chain.
Financial inclusion and access to business opportunities featured prominently in the programme.
Representatives from @BankofKigali presented financial products and opportunities available to young people, while the @RwandaAgriBoard/ SPIU shared information on available opportunities and programmes that can support youth engagement in agriculture.
The sessions gave the newly elected leaders an opportunity to connect leadership and governance with practical opportunities for young people working across the agricultural value chain.

Following nationwide elections, the Rwanda Youth in Agribusiness Forum (RYAF) today, 26th August 2026, officially launched a 3-Day Leadership & Governance Induction Program at Play Hotel, Kigali (26–28 August 2026).
Welcoming participants, the RYAF Chairperson @SakinaUsengima1 expressed gratitude to government institutions and partners, recognizing MINAGRI's continuous support over the past 10 years of RYAF's journey, as well as key partners including AGRA for making the leadership induction possible.
Dr. Damien Shumbusha from the Ministry of Youth and Arts (MOYA). In his address, he highlighted:
"We deeply appreciate RYAF for the great work you do in agriculture. We expect a lot from you and those you represent, and the country looks forward to the results you will deliver. Thank you, and keep taking bold steps forward."
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, Dr. @olivikam, urged the new leaders:
"As @RwandaAgri, we will continue to collaborate with you. It is commendable to have RYAF onboard, and I urge you as elected representatives to work together and actively contribute to key national development frameworks, including NST2 and PSTA5, aimed at accelerating agricultural productivity."
This induction gathers 145 newly elected leaders (140 District Committee representatives & 5 National Board Directors) to strengthen governance, youth advocacy, gender inclusion, and strategic action planning.
