NMABE's mission is to foster, encourage, and promote bilingualism for all children through advocacy, professional development, networking and current research.
Fifty years ago, my parents helped write and pass the Bilingual Multicultural Education Act. Today, 70% of NM school districts practice bilingual instruction.
I spoke on the House floor to celebrate Keres, Tiwa, Tewa, Towa, Diné, Apache, Zuni, Spanish, and ASL.

Dual language immersion programs can be a viable model for school improvement and turnaround. Sherman Heights is another example of schools that recognize the cognitive benefits students experience when learning in two or more languages.
