It seems incredible that each day presents you with a new sunrise; all you have to do is wake up on time and go outside, and it's there for the taking.
Not a bad deal at all
There is a pause in the rain at sunrise, and sunset, even in the depths of winter in Cape Town. No study has been done at this level of granularity.
For 15 minutes either side, the rain stops. This has happened so often that I plan around it.
A gift
It is possible to pursue Not Dying from a place of lightness and joy - with a sense of proportion and perspective.
But the field tends to attract and reward neurotic clinging. Watch that you are not dragged down that hellhole.
You can spend so much constricted effort on Not Dying, that you lose sight of the original point, which is to have a good, meaningful life.
Nothing is guaranteed. All you have is this moment.
Fearing death creates resistance. Resistance kills presence.
And a man who isn't present compounds that loss every single day until it's misery, and he can't work out where it came from.
We are all going to die. Extending the count was never the point. Living the time you actually have is.
Die Well, NOT "Don't Die."
I had an eye-opening conversation with @thecureforblur; give it a listen.

Sleeping masks are extremely cheap and one of the best ways to improve sleep in environments that won't allow for truly dark conditions.
For example in an ICU
In our last space @nma_fyi and I talked about this.

If you come across cooking shows from the early 2000s, it seems to be an accepted norm to cook in plastic bags and containers. It makes you cringe watching it, like watching someone light up a cigarette for their child.
At some point, this is how we will view buying all our food wrapped in plastic.

Factory farming is so incredibly evil. An industry built on torture and a rejection of the bargain our ancestors made with the animals they domesticated. You shouldnโt just reject factory farmed food because itโs less nutritious. Reject it because itโs wrong.
My frustration with this Categorial Imperative-esque argument is that it is usually used by the same people who say you should not eat beef because of deforestation in Brazil for cattle farming.
This is just an argument to source your food better, not to chain yourself to lentils for the rest of your life.
And the most frustrating part is that it is usually used by the very people (relatively wealthy + conscientious) who are best suited to source exceptionally high-quality meat from the very best regenerative farms.
We are nowhere NEAR peak regenerative farming of cattle - the industry could do with as much demand as possible, and this demand could come from the very people who voluntarily choose to rather eat monoslop imported from Turkey or India.
My response to "we can't all go carnivore" has long been a comparison to clean water.
If we learn that it's extremely beneficial for humans to eat primarily or even only meat then the correct response is prioritizing figuring out how to get everyone access, not dismissing it.
@trikomes His paper was devastating. It was largely memory-holed as really very inconvenient.
Most people are still unsure how to integrate it into their lives and interactions with studies
Oh, yeah, my post was in response to your mentioning the valid critiques of cooked meat.
It does seem that we evolved eating rotten meat, we were probably hunter-scavengers, and our current distaste for it is due to changing social mores and also probably changing gut bacteria.

@KetoCarnivore One of the missing pieces in this space, I believe, is the western gut microbiome being so depleted. We're likely missing stuff that used to protect us from toxins in rotten meat.
