Risk-taking is an essential part of an individual’s professional journey. Today, we had the privilege to join @sukhindersingh in a conversation moderated by @shernazdaver and hosted by Women@10x. Sukhinder shared her insights on how even small risks can transform one’s career.
TRTools publication is available in Bioinformatics journal.

✨TRTools v4.0 is out!✨
TRTools is a Python lib and a toolkit for filtering, merging, and QC of Tandem Repeat genotype files.

Shoutout to @margoltash for overhauling the codebase to use cyvcf2 for VCF parsing to improve performance.
Super excited about this collaboration on tandem repeat mutations in collaboration with @ileena_mitra, @mgymrek, @b_b_huang, @nmmsv, et al. We find negative selection on tandem repeat mutations in humans & that evolutionarily deleterious mutations are enriched in autism cases.
Super excited to present at #ASHG20 tomorrow! My talk will be on SISTR, our new method to measure negative selection at short tandem repeats.
Session 39 at 7:30 am PST/10:30 am EST
Preprint w/ @ileena_mitra @mgymrek@lohmueller & others: https://t.co/fW9HIAj3gq
I put together a playbook to make #ASHG2020 feel more like the in-person conference I look forward to each year. Feel free to adapt to your own virtual conference setup.
Big Data and Bioethics session was best panel discussion I've seen at ASHG. Thanks @josephvitti@ReillyLikesIt for proposing and moderating this incredible session, and @mildredkcho @andganna@CohenProf@fahshine. We need more discussions like this. #ASHG20
Sad news: A new hire decided moving to USA is too risky given current status on COVID-19, economy, prospects for higher education, and immigration policies. Posting their letter (w permission) so others can be aware of how the US is viewed now by this highly talented person (1/3)
There's an opening on my team at @color for a data analyst position - My team works on super cool projects from #Covid to #genetics and more! Let me know if you're interested/want a referral :) https://t.co/piVrDXaanR
Our work on genome-wide profiling of tandem repeat (TR) expansions is out!
We've created a new method (GangSTR) for fast and accurate genotyping of TRs.
Many many thanks to Sharona, Richard, and @mgymrek for their efforts and guidance!

@Barak_Pooja@mgymrek Hello @Barak_Pooja,
GangSTR can be used to genotype tandem repeats on a whole genome datasets. It uses a predefined set of tandem repeats (you can find them on our github repository) to do this. So it won’t be able to identify new TRs.
I have been putting off emailing a PI (very distinguished individual in their field) for a testimonial letter for 2 weeks.
Today I finally sent that email.
They responded within 5 minutes, said they are happy to help, and asked me to consider their lab for postdoc.
i’ve been trying to come up with a single justification for ICE’s new student visa regulations and i haven’t been able to. there’s no public health or “security” benefit to it. the point is to punish people for not being american. that’s it
This is bad. ICE just told students here on student visas that if their school is going online-only this fall, the students must depart the United States and cannot remain through the fall semester. https://t.co/8DteVzexLB
@zoom_us experts, I just got these notifications while zoom was running in the background. Is this @UCSDJacobs admin installing and uninstalling apps for all users? Is zoom doing this? Ghosts?

We absolutely welcome improvements to this method from the community. If you want to add support for a new method or add a new tool to the set, here is a guide:
