There is a simple heuristics, that allows you to trashbin >90% of conspiracy theories as completely implausible:

a) there are no real adults
b) there are no plans measured in centuries

If a theory is predicated upon the existence of either, it goes to the trashbin

@InfoAgeStrategy Public vs private means less here than what is legal under our zoning laws, but I agree it is easier for a private companies to go outside the core mission to make an actual profit.

@MaybeSoland @scottlincicome Seems like the basic argument is we could have a larger Merchant Marine if we had less onerous rules around sailors and procurement that still met sealift needs if we relied on allied capacity, which is reasonable to me.
