In response to ongoing protest across the county, Oyebisi B, Oluseyi, Executive Director of the Nigeria Network of NGOs, issued the following statement:
Sustainable Development Goals 14 and 15 focus on conserving and protecting under water and land ecosystems.
World Environment Day, 5th of June every year drives this action for the protection of our environment, raising awareness on everyday environmental issues from marine pollution to global warming to sustainable consumption and to wildlife.
This year's theme, "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future," highlights the very important role nature plays in providing solutions to the climate crisis. From forests that absorb carbon dioxide to oceans that regulate the Earth’s temperature, nature remains our strongest ally in building resilience against environmental threats.
This is why we all must come together to protect, restore, and sustainably manage our natural environment. Every action counts from reducing plastic waste and embracing recycling, to protecting forests, conserving water, and supporting policies that safeguard biodiversity.

Oyebisi's further call aligns with the broader objectives of the C7 Summit, which is focused on advancing recommendations on the future of multilateralism, international humanitarian law, reform of global financial systems, the future of development assistance, and growing restrictions on civic space around the world.
The summit serves as a critical platform for civil society organizations to influence global policy discussions and contribute actionable recommendations to G7 leaders.
𝗔 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Closing his address, Oyebisi called on G7 leaders to:
👉 Reverse cuts to Official Development Assistance;
👉 Recommit to global solidarity targets, including the 0.7%;
👉 Protect civic space and fundamental human rights; and
👉 Promote inclusive, accountable, and effective multilateralism.
"The world does not need another declaration of concern," he concluded. "It needs concrete choices."

Paris, France - 5 June 2026
The Executive Director of the Nigeria Network of NGOs (NNNGO), Oyebisi Babatunde Oluseyi has called on G7 leaders to move beyond rhetoric and take decisive action to defend multilateralism, reverse aid cuts, and protect civic space.
Earlier today, delivering a keynote remarks at the Opening Session of the Civil 7 Summit in Paris, France, Oyebisi urged world leaders to match their commitments with concrete action, emphasizing the indispensable role of civil society in addressing today's interconnected global challenges.
The C7 Summit, convened under the theme "Global Justice and Solidarity: Mobilizing for Change," brings together civil society leaders from across the world to develop policy recommendations ahead of the G7 Leaders' Summit.
"Civil society is not an accessory to global solutions, we are at the heart of them," Oyebisi said during his keynote address.
𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲
Addressing international stakeholders, Oyebisi described the current global landscape as a defining test for international cooperation and governance.
He highlighted a convergence of crises, including rising conflicts, growing humanitarian needs, worsening climate impacts, and increasing health challenges. These pressures, he noted, are occurring at a time when civic space is shrinking and development assistance is declining.
"This is not a normal G7 year," he said. "It is a test of whether the G7 will defend multilateralism, international law, and global solidarity in practice - not just in speeches."
𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲
Speaking from the perspective of the Global South, Oyebisi stressed that civil society's demands extend beyond appeals for assistance.
"We are not here to ask for charity. We are calling for justice," he stated.
He called on global leaders to make bold political choices that address structural inequalities, democratize global financial governance, protect human rights, and ensure that affected communities have a meaningful voice in decision-making processes.
As the leader of the peak body for CSOs in Nigeria, Oyebisi emphasized the need to rebalance global systems that often exclude those most affected by crises.
𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝟳 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲
Oyebisi challenged G7 governments to align their actions with their stated commitments, drawing attention to contradictions between public declarations of support for multilateralism and policy decisions that undermine global cooperation.
"You cannot claim to defend multilateralism while cutting aid, weakening institutions, or applying international law selectively," he noted.
He further noted that the G7's significant influence over development finance, international institutions, and global policy frameworks must be matched by a corresponding commitment to responsibility and accountability.
𝗖𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿
Drawing on the experiences of civil society organizations worldwide, Oyebisi highlighted the role CSOs play as frontliners in humanitarian response, human rights protection, community development, and accountability efforts.
He therefore called for greater protection of civic space, flexible and sustainable funding mechanisms for civil society organizations, and institutionalized participation in global decision-making processes. "Without civil society, there is no accountability, no legitimacy, and no lasting progress," he stressed.
𝗖𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗟 𝟳 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆
Tomorrow, global civil society leaders will gather at the @AFD_en - Agence Française de Développement in Paris for the CIVIL 7 (C7) Summit, the official engagement group that channels civil society perspectives and policy recommendations to the #G7.
Bringing together representatives from over 100 organizations across more than 20 countries, the summit will foster dialogue and action on some of the world's most pressing issues, including international solidarity, the protection of rights and freedoms, economic justice, and the climate emergency.
As France prepares to host G7 leaders in Évian-les-Bains from June 15–17, the C7 Summit presents an opportunity for civil society, particularly voices from the Global South to influence global decision-making and advocate for a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future.
Join the Summit tomorrow at 8:00 AM (WAT) https://t.co/6B58NKmMi2 as our Executive Director, @oyebisi Babatunde Oluseyi joins fellow development leaders to deliver opening remarks and help set the tone for this important global conversation.

May 28 is #WorldHungerDay
While humanity has made remarkable advances in technology, medicine, and innovation, millions of people around the world still struggle daily with one of the most basic human needs: #food.
Hunger is not merely the absence of food. It is a silent crisis that affects health, education, productivity, security, and human dignity. It weakens bodies, limits opportunities, and traps generations in cycles of poverty. And there goes the saying "An hungry man is an angry man."
According to the United Nations' State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World Report, approximately 673 million people experienced hunger in 2024, representing about 8.2 percent of the world's population.
In Nigeria, the United Nations World Food Programme reports nearly 35 million Nigerians are currently facing acute food insecurity, driven by conflict, inflation, climate-related disasters, displacement, and the collapse of local food systems in several regions, with states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe the hardest hit due to years of insurgency and insecurity.
When people cannot meet their basic food needs, the effects are devastating, this is why The InnerCity Mission is addressing this challenge through their - Give A Meal App. The Give A Meal App is designed to easily sponsor meals for individuals, children in particular with no source of income.
From Lagos, Abeokuta, Nigeria to Eswatini, to Makholokholo, to Mahwalala to Botswana and to many other parts of Africa, with just a tap on your mobile device, your contributions can provide food for children at their schools, deliver food parcels to families, offer timely food aid to orphanages, and serve hot meals at soup kitchens.

No child deserves to sleep hungry.
No future should be limited by lack of food.

Every May 28th is World Menstrual Hygiene Day.
World Menstrual Hygiene Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene management for women and girls worldwide.
We have heard about the challenges surrounding menstrual hygiene, and they are vast. According to UNICEF , around 500 million women and girls globally lack adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management.
In low-income countries, 1 in 10 girls misses school during their menstrual cycle, which translates to an average of 20% of a school year lost due to menstruation.
World Bank Group reports that in sub-Saharan Africa, only 37% of schools have access to adequate sanitation facilities, impacting girls' ability to manage their periods with dignity, while globally, only 66% of schools have usable and separate toilets for girls, making it difficult for many to manage their menstrual hygiene in a private and safe environment.
We have also heard in some cultures, menstruation is still surrounded by myths and taboos. For instance, in some communities we hear that women and girls are subjected to a practice that isolates them during their periods.
There's therefore the need for Governments of the world to develop policies that ensure access to menstrual hygiene products and education. World leaders can follow Scotland's line, as Scotland is the first country in the world to provide free period products to anyone who needs them. Investing in better sanitation facilities in schools and public places to ensure privacy and safety for menstruating individuals is also very important, plus programs that educate both girls and boys to reduce stigma and promote understanding.
Raising awareness and taking action on these issues not only support gender equality but also promote better health, education, and economic outcomes for communities worldwide.

Today is Children’s Day.
In Nigeria, May 27th is a day meant to celebrate innocence, dreams, laughter and the limitless possibilities that live inside of every child.
A day meant for bright uniforms, dancing feet, happy classrooms, and hopeful futures. A day when children are mostly proudly dressed in different colours, representing their various "houses" during march pasts.
But sadly, for many Nigerian children, childhood is slowly becoming overshadowed by fear😭
Across the country, children are growing up in an atmosphere where going to school, something so ordinary has become a source of anxiety for parents, students and their teachers. What should be places of safety and learning are increasingly becoming scenes of panic, trauma and uncertainty😡😰
According to the Child Rights Act 2003, every Nigerian child has the right to survival, development, protection and education. These rights are not privileges. They are promises meant to protect every child regardless of background, religion or location.
In 2015, it was recorded that Nigeria endorsed the Safe Schools Declaration (SSD), making a commitment to protect schools, students and teachers from attacks and violence during periods of insecurity.
Yet, the painful reality continues to tell a different story.
According to Save the Children’s November 2025 report, at least 10 school kidnappings occurred across Nigeria in less than two years, affecting about 670 children. Behind those numbers are terrified faces, interrupted dreams and children whose sense of safety may never fully return.
These are children who should be worrying about their playmates, snacks, homework, cartoons, friendships and what they want to become in future not whether armed men might invade their classrooms, and begin to torture them endlessly.
The recent kidnapping of children and teachers in Oyo State once again reopened a wound many Nigerians are desperately trying to heal from. For communities already living in fear, every new abduction feels like another reminder that childhood itself is under attack already.
And perhaps the most heartbreaking part is how normal these stories are beginning to sound😠😭
No child deserves this kind of reality.
No, not one, not any.
Today marks another significant moment to ask difficult questions about what kind of future are being built for an approximate half of Nigeria's total population.
Because a country that cannot protect its children cannot truly protect its future.
Children deserve homes and classrooms where they feel safe enough to dream boldly. Parents deserve the peace of mind that comes with knowing their children will return home in one piece and not in pieces. Teachers deserve environments where education can be rooted without fear.
As Nigeria marks Children’s Day 2026, the message must be louder than ever: every child deserves protection, dignity, education, welfare and peace.
No child should have to learn in fear. No parent should have to fear a goodbye at the school gate. No teacher should be made a sacrificial lamb. And no classroom should ever become a crime scene.
It is time to transition from mere reflection and endless promises to concrete actions, actions that ensure every child's welfare is paramount, that they are protected, educated, and guaranteed a future free from fear and violence.
