Project oversight is just as critical as funding without accountability and transparency, even the best-funded projects cannot deliver real impact.

Prof. Barikor Inaugurates National Working Group for Africa POPs-Free Electronics Plastics Project (GEF-ID 11049).
The Director General of the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Prof. Innocent Barikor today inaugurated 25-man National Working Group for a Regional Project aimed at addressing plastic pollution and the hazardous impact of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) from the electronics sector on the environment.
The 5-year Project, funded by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) is to be implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Zimbabwe; Basel Convention Coordinating Centre for Africa and NESREA are the Co-Executing Agencies.
Prof. Barikor during the virtual inauguration said the project is significant as it aims to address the growing concern of electronic plastic waste and its negative impact on human health, biodiversity, and the ecosystem.
He further stated that the National Working Group, which comprises experts from governmental and non-governmental organisations, provides an opportunity to influence policies, enhance public awareness, and drive meaningful action in the fight against plastic pollution, especially electrical electronics sector.
We launched the Global E-waste Monitor 2024 on 20th March 2024. I appreciate @UNITAR
