🟥 Liverpool knew they had a midfield problem when they chased Tchouameni, Caicedo and Zubimendi. They’ve known for a while. Yesterday at Newcastle simply underlined that it still hasn’t been solved.

If Richard Hughes is serious about fixing it before the window shuts, these are three names I’d be looking at:

🇸🇳 Lamine Camara
🇪🇸 Chema Andres
🇪🇸 Mikel Jauregizar

All three bring the legs, aggression, defensive awareness and ball-winning ability this Liverpool midfield is crying out for.

@EfranAlexander Szobo can’t play in a double pivot, only good as a 8 in a 433 or a second striker in a pressing 422. He lacks line breaking and short range passing, dribbling and controlling in tight spaces, setting the momentum of the game & tacking or involving in physical battles in midfield.

I think Wirtz himself is frustrated with his performances, but we need to be fair to him.

He’s an attacking midfielder who needs to be protected. We all saw how David Silva operated at City,similar in terms of being a technically gifted player, but he had defensive midfielders behind him to protect the team when he lost the ball.

If we expect Gravenberch and Szoboszlai to provide that protection, I’m sorry, but we’re never going to see the best of Wirtz.

Liverpool fans need to relax with this player. Our fanbase is becoming ruthless these days, there’s simply no patience anymore. 🔴
