Better beyond 24 hours?
Palonosetron + dexamethasone reduced late PONV vs ondansetron combo—while early outcomes were similar.

🤢 Nausea and vomiting during caesarean delivery are not trivial. Multimodal antiemetic prophylaxis, especially combination therapy, can reduce complications, improve comfort, and support smoother recovery.

Genetics did not have any relevant predictive value for PONV in this very well conducted study. Also, they report an incidence of 8.8% for PONV at PACU confirming my thesis that in a general PACU cohort, one in ten experience PONV. #ponv#anesthesia#postoperative#pacu
Postoperative nausea and vomiting is a key driver of unplanned admission and patient satisfaction after surgery. In the January 2025 cover study, Douville et al. hypothesized that genetics may contribute to the overall risk of this complication: https://t.co/JzI8cySteQ
Interesting study, but main outcome is not relevant (patients with BOTH nausea AND vomiting at 24 hours). A real outcome is in the results: the overall number of events of nausea at 24 h were 82% (47/57) and 89% (51/57), and of vomiting were 26% (15/57) and 19% (11/57).

Interesting review on the use inhaled isopropyl alcohol to treat #PONV. Many substances relive PONV, but it is always a balance between effect and side-effects before an intervention can be recommended for PONV.

RCT with low-dose nicotine patch do not reduce #PONV.
Abstract indicate a signal in the need for rescue analgesics (meperidine) (72% vs 48%), but figures wrong! Should be 52% vs 48% according to table 3.

“High intraoperative oxygen administration has no clinically significant benefit on the incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting.” Authors assert that intraoperative oxygen should be adjusted for oxygenation reasons only. See the editorial: https://t.co/NephZ9Nk30

#PONV risk is among the highest for laparoscopic bariatric surgery. EP needle stimulation reduced PONV, still high incidences 0-12 h in both groups (70 vs. 90%) @JournalObesity. Same effect of the needle with a more aggressive antiemetic regime? @noponv
