2022 was an awful year for me personally but that certainly wasn’t the case for film. Incredible indies and a true return to form for Hollywood blockbusters in movies like Avatar: The Way of Water & Top Gun: Maverick.

Here are my top 20.

I cannot overstate how refreshing it is to see a blockbuster on this scale that doesn’t have to be concerned with “disrespecting the fans” or stupid lore.

There isn’t even anything to spoil. You just have to go experience it for yourself.

Relieved to say I think we’re in safe hands with #TheRingsOfPower. I was very impressed with the first two episodes.

Immaculate ending to #BetterCallSaul. The final shot of Jimmy & Kim made all the B&W scenes worth it. Bravo to literally everyone involved but especially Bob Odenkirk and Rhea Seehorn. Master class performances.

Unforgettable characters. Unforgettable show. I’ll miss it dearly.

Jurassic World: Dominion is somehow worse than Fallen Kingdom. I can’t believe it either.

Dinos living freely among humans is inherently interesting and instead the biggest threat is bugs. The iconic original trio is put to absolute shame. Colin Treverrow SUCKS, don’t see it!

Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel that respects the legacy of its predecessor so delicately that it manages to surpass it in every way imaginable. You’ll never forget how the third act makes you feel.

The only summer blockbuster that matters this year. Masterpiece!

I am very upset that Kristen Stewart didn’t win. It makes no sense. But I loved every Best Picture nominee, they all deserved to win. I was just boss to West Side Story.

Will punching Chris was insane. A very weird show this year. #Oscars

#TurningRed  is a wonderful & heartwarming coming-of-age story. It captures middle school energy so beautifully. Every shot is a feast for the eyes.

Disney demoting this to streaming is outrageous– Pixar is top tier. Their films demand and deserve the theatrical experience!

#TheBatman is just as incredible if not more so on second viewing. The car chase was unreal in IMAX. You literally feel the Batmobile revving up. Matt Reeves is a savior in this increasingly saturated superhero genre.

I am so happy to say #TheBatman  is an absolute MASTERPIECE.

By focusing on The Dark Knight’s noir roots Matt Reeves has delivered one of the GREATEST interpretations of my favorite superhero of all time.

A much-needed reminder of the massive heights comic book films can reach

Uncharted has no idea what it wants to be, but one thing it certainly isn’t is any form of a faithful adaptation of it’s beloved source material.

There are a few brief moments where I enjoyed myself but as a whole it boils down to Peter Parker pretending to be Indiana Jones.

Not nominating Spencer for cinematography is mind boggling. No love for Mass, French Dispatch, or Titane is expected but still insane.

I’m very glad Drive My Car and Dune got a good amount of love. Can’t wait for Kristen to win Best Actress! #OscarNoms

If you like to laugh your ass off, don’t miss #jackassforever in theaters!! Johnny Knoxville and the crew still know how to put on an unforgettable show all these years later.

I don’t think there was a moment I or the rest of the theater stopped laughing once the movie started.

The new #Scream is a lot of fun.

In this age of “requels” it was about time for a movie to ponder why they exist and what they bring to the table– good and bad. Both the new cast and returning trio were terrific.
