“Disorder.” JOY DIVISION
Shot in Super-8 by Malcolm Whitehead at **Bowden Vale Youth Club, Altrincham – 14 March 1979.
Three songs filmed – the earliest live footage of Joy Division that exists.
This isn’t just a gig, it’s a moment frozen in time: Ian Curtis at his intensity, the band raw and young, Manchester’s post-industrial edges visible outside the stage, and a spirit of resistance humming beneath the notes.
The film was inexpensive, homemade, but charged with urgency. With only a few cartridges of film, Whitehead captured something that today feels sacred to anyone who reveres what Joy Division stood for.
