The story of queer liberation in the Philippines has always been a story of bayanihan.

From the lesbian and queer women activists who joined the International Women’s Day mobilization in 1992 to the organizers, advocates, artists, and everyday community members who followed, every step forward has been made possible by people choosing to build together.

For #MetrosceneMagPride2026, we honor the groundbreaking community of lesbians, queer women, and trans men whose contributions have long sustained the movement, even when their stories were pushed to its margins.

34 years after, the work remains unfinished—not because the movement has failed, and not because nothing has changed, but because liberation was never meant to be a destination. It has always been a process: one that each generation inherits, reshapes, and carries forward.

The work continues. And in the spirit of bayanihan, we keep building. That responsibility belongs to all of us.
