@Boenau I’m also always shocked by folks saying this in NYC when they’re obviously well used. Literally just watched a light cycle on 2nd Avenue where bikes outnumbered cars.
@crosstown_line You honestly probably could here. The traffic volume along the South Street Viaduct is pretty low. Could easily convert it to a West Side Highway-style boulevard.
@richmintz I think for folks not from New York, it’s just unfathomable that wealthy people might take public transit. But growing up I knew tons of friends whose parents were upper middle class professionals who took the subway to Midtown or Lower Manhattan jobs. 🤷♂️
@fredrikalindh@wholemars I do think Tesla needs to figure out a better infotainment onboarding option for casual renters. CarPlay/Android Auto is such a plug and play setup for folks renting cars regularly.
@DevMoore lol, people can have a quieter city and it still work well. I’m born and raised here and it’s totally gotten louder thanks to NYPD’s warbler sirens and a general lack of enforcement on honking and exhaust backfiring by NYPD Traffic.
@AkaTrains Definitely getting more active as retail fills up! But yeah, it’s like a twist on that classic tweet: how many retail spots and apartments were in the abandoned warehouses before they were redeveloped? 🤣
@1imeTime The year I was born the city had about 2k murders and a population a million and a half lower than today. Last year NYC had just over 300 murders and folks will tell you with a straight face that the city has never been more dangerous. Truly ludicrous.
@damonhemmerding@PatCarino It’s really funny, too, since if you’re really triggered by bike lanes you can like in the 99% of the rest of the US without them.
@ShabazzStuart Yeah, same complaint I have about the Central and Bryant Park Conservancies. Each do amazing work and are excellent stewards of their parks, but in theory we really shouldn’t need them. Parks should be a better funded and managed agency.
@jmp_nyc@Jay_McGill94 Hahaha, I do also think you’ve got a generation of politicians who simply don’t remember how much the debt loaded on during the prosperous 90s is a big reason authorities like the MTA aren’t in better shape today financially.
@jmp_nyc@Jay_McGill94 Yeah, the funny accounting this cycle was really unfortunate and something we’ll likely regret when we actually do face a really bad economic outlook and will envy the flexibility we gave up during good times.
