TTRPGs, Warhammer, MMORPGs, and geeky things. Views are my own. Conservative but not political. Just when I thought I was out, WoW (Forever) pulled me back in.
The Paladin topic is amusing because that seems to be the one and only hill people are willing to die on, because they can't get over the fact D&D still uses that name while it's not the same class.
You don't see these arguments about Druids, Rangers, or anything else.
It definitely seems to be the main one the oldschoolers (of which I'm one too) cry about despite paladins not being required to be Human for like almost 30 years and not being required to be LG since probably around 20.
So like I said, if they used a different name, the complaints would stop; it's just because it's still called "Paladin" that there's whining.
@Hub_Libertarian@zeodeon Anarchy Online, I thought, but yeah. Originally it was going to have been like EverQuest where you could, although it'd take a long time, be an Orc with enough rep with humans to walk into Stormwind and not be attacked
If D&D called it "Champion" like Pathfinder does, 99% of the "Paladins MUST be Lawful Good and Human" argument vanishes because it's not a Paladin anymore (although clearly the same thing).
They are literally too caught up in a single word to see the forest through the trees.
