Campaigning for independent coronial investigation after stillbirth where concerns about care exist. Access to justice should not depend on respiration.
Coronial investigations and stillbirth reviews serve different purposes.
One is designed to independently establish facts.
The other is designed to identify learning.
Both matter.
They are not the same thing.

Reviews and independent scrutiny serve different purposes.
Understanding that distinction is the first step to understanding the inequity.

@BirthTrauma Only that our children are not seen as people.
The legislation exists.
'Some' say stillbirths are already investigated. They are not.
Please see https://t.co/J5j5vE7g8Z for more.
Time for coronial inquiry into term stillbirth to become a norm. All over there is tremendous scope in maternity services for misinformation, racism and negligent care leading to avoidable harm. The coronial process allows for much needed accountability in such cases.

@autinveniamviam However, please note the requirement should not be restricted to ‘term’.
This is a hard line based on soft clinical estimates of gestation.
@autinveniamviam Thank you.

Many victims campaigned to get legislation passed 7 years ago, online for two governments to sit on it.
The law to do this already exists.

Thanks for highlighting the inequality that Harriet was subjected to.
It’s beyond belief that the legislation to change this has been in place in England for 7 years.
Why are babies in England allowed less justice that in NI?
@ArleneFosterUK
Thank you for sharing my beautiful daughter.
I’m originally from Banbridge but gave birth in Nottingham. Harriet was born dead so did not qualify for a coronial inquest in England. If I had given birth at home in NI then an inquest would have been held. This would have saved years of fighting and cover up.
It feels so unfair to have different rules re stillbirths throughout the UK.
Some say stillbirths are already investigated.
Yet national PMRT data show that 1 in 10 reviews remained unfinished in 2024.
A review that isn’t completed can’t provide learning, accountability or answers.

Some say stillbirths are already investigated.
Yet by 2024, national PMRT data show parents' comments were recorded in only around half of completed reviews.
Being asked isn't the same as being heard.

Today we wrote to the new @MoJGovUK Minister responsible for coroners (@catkinson80) regarding the unfulfilled statutory duty from Section 4 of the Civil Partnerships, Marriages and Deaths (Registration etc.) Act 2019.

@DadOfAubrey@CfSaferBirths@timloughton@MoJGovUK@MatNeoInv Congratulations on your new post @catkinson80
We would welcome the opportunity to discuss the statutory requirement contained in Section 4 of the Civil Partnerships, Marriages & Deaths (Registration etc.) Act 2019 - which is now in your portfolio.

Why, after @CfSaferBirths spent 10 years campaigning, after @timloughton passed his private members bill, has the statutory requirement to report still not been actioned by @MoJGovUK
FOIs are refused. Letters to ministers are 'diverted' to Health. PQs defer to @MatNeoInv.
