The same thing happened with the University of California. They canceled their Elsevier contract and were expecting a huge backlash. After about a year, one of the librarians told me that they were surprised that almost nobody complained.
When I was at JAMA, we did a survey of young clinicians to find out how they acquire medical information. They told us they got it from UpToDate, Wikipedia and podcasts. They specifically said they don’t read journals or textbooks.
So in 2007, physicists wrote a paper that made the headlines: according to their calculations, human coin flips aren’t 50/50 - more like 51/49.
Why is that, and did students in Amsterdam really flip 350,000 coins to find out?

Just used GPT-4o to make this, comparing the coverage of Web of Science, Scopus, and @OpenAlex_org. Data from https://t.co/3aIBeQgPYe. It was able to extract the data from the original (b&w) venn diagram, then drew this new one in color.

A thing that will never get old for me on here is new PIs talking about their lab’s first preprint. Going from an empty room to research shared with the world is of course a huge milestone. But to see folks set the tone for their new lab and the next generation by taking control of when their work sees the light of day? That is just the absolute best! Love this for you and for science 😍
Nexus é a melhor alternativa ao scihub (sem novos artigos desde 2020)/libgen. Maioria das solicitações que inundam o wosonhj e reddit scholar estão disponíveis "gratuitamente" através de bots no telegram (1/9)
@KavithaSci@DrSalinasLab Of course, because Cell Press wants the exclusive rights to appropriate reviewers’ voluntary work for free and profit from it. Letting other people in the game would spoil this parasitic feast.
The research information landscape requires fundamental change. Today, over 40 organisations commit to making openness of research information the norm.
