I get the spirit of the rule but feel it was implemented too quickly for players to adjust. Usually, new rules are tested in a club season before official.

You know an (Koné) injury is bad when the surgeons are watching the game, see the play and say ‘hey I need to go to the hospital immediately to fix that injury.’

How do they know? Because they know medicine and knew that needed surgery immediately.

Don’t wait for the call, anticipate it.

Especially if you’re one of the top orthopedic trauma surgeons in the city.

As I initially had suspected and feared, Canada’s Koné is confirmed to have suffered a fracture of the fibula and tibia of his left leg.

He is reportedly undergoing surgery now.

I wonder if this is a possible pathological fracture, specifically of the tibia.

This usually occurs when there’s an underlying disease or condition—such as a tumor, infection, or metabolic bone disorder— weakening the bone making it easier to fracture.

Usually a kick like this wouldn’t lead to a fracture of the tibia + fibula.

This is the play and an idea of what the hardware in his leg will look like on X-ray.

Realistically he could return in 4-6 months.
