A 17-year-old Brahmin widow was being ritually burned (Sati). When she attempted to escape the funeral pyre, she was hacked into pieces.

This is a very shameful and dangerous defence, because the Rajputs also commited mass female infanticide to uphold - "honour".

Jauhar, which is being defended under the same motion of honour and dignity, was no different from this at all, not even in ideological motivity - the fear of bringing dishonour to the clan.

The concern here was not even for the women or their personal dignity, but for the honour of the clan.

And therein lies the hypocrisy of Hindu men. While women were made to carry the burden of the clan's pride, men let themselves could be enslaved and trafficked across Central Asian and Arabian markets. What honour?
