Good to see Recommendation 8 in the Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs Report in Tackling Childhood Obesity #nofryzones@AlanFarrell. Built environment is an important part of the overall solution
Junk food marketing influences young people to overconsume leading to health problems and obesity. @Irishheart_ie is calling for regulation to prevent junk brands targeting kids through brand marketing via @MarkHilliardIT@IrishTimes#stoptargetingkids https://t.co/ukB6FRAQmD
@safefood_eu @OSheaHoganLab @DeiseDietitian @karlhenrypt @dreddiemurphy Big fan of #OperationTransformation & all you have done getting the country active with inspirational leaders.
Need to address key issues like the Built Environment, promotion & access of unhealthy foods too
Nice recognition of the work of @phil_moyles and the #NoFryZone committee in @wicklowcoco. We won’t be finished until we see full implementation as outlined in our County Development Plan
.@AlanFarrell noting the challenges re implementation of #NoFryZones and the need for a national uniform policy given difficulties that have arisen in some areas. Role of @nofryzone4us recognised in highlighting this important issue
Delighted to be co-hosting the upcoming #obesityforum workshop with @safefoodnetwork & @UK_ASO. Join us in Dublin on 13 Nov to discuss "Reformulating our obesogenic environment" https://t.co/FCdpGdWjXC Ping @EASOobesity@WorldObesity
Excellant points made by @DrEvaOrsmond & @OSheaDonal at @ClaireByrneLive on adult & childhood obesity. More investment is needed in education, healthy eating programs & a nationwide ban on @nofryzone4us within 400m from schools campuses . @HealthyIreland @coolfoodschool
2/2 Asked him to explain how they still have an award presented to the council at #ASOI2018 for promotion of public health. @wicklowcoco granted permission AFTER receipt of the award and publicised the award in their Countywise magazine.
RT to highlight this shocking behaviour.
1/2 Sent a letter on behalf of @nofryzone4us to CEO @wicklowcoco look for him to explain how they granted planning application for fast food outlet just 150m away from 2 schools when #nofryzone objective is clear - no new outlets within 400m of schools.
Excellent meeting with @nofryzone4us this evening. Clearly the built environment has a major role on public health. This is recognised in our obesity strategy. Am convening stakeholder forum to decide how best to address this & have asked @phil_moyles to present at this
@SimonHarrisTD@nofryzone4us Thanks Simon. @wicklowcoco put NO importance on public health when they ignored #Nofryzone objective RT17 in the CDP.
This attitude by planning must change & come from top down. Health of future generations depend on minimising obosengic environment. Strategy must be delivered.
So disappointing to see @phil_moyles#NoFryZone 😤 @wicklowcoco happy to accept @ASOIreland 2018 award & publicity that accompanied - this flies in the face of that & shows what an uphill battle @HealthyIreland has to create meaningful environmental change in 🇮🇪 😕 https://t.co/ZadKyTtypT
@nofryzone4us More exposure on the crazy decision by Wicklow Co Co contravening it's own CDP.
18 months to adopt a #Nofryzone objective which officials did not adhere to.
Brings local planning into disrepute. @JPPhelan@SimonHarrisTD@MurphyEoghan @DonnellyStephen @loreillysf https://t.co/1qJ2pjYx51
