Braxton Keathley Commits to the University of the Pacific

The University of the Pacific has landed a prized recruit in 6-foot-5, four-star combo guard @BraxKeathley , who announced his commitment to the West Coast Conference program on Thursday .

The top-ranked guard in Kentucky for the Class of 2027 brings elite scoring ability, size, and playmaking to a Tigers squad on the rise under legendary head coach Dave Smart.

Keathley, had a dominating junior season averaging 33.2 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, shooting 57% from the field, 47% from three-point range, and 86% from the free-throw line. He earned MaxPreps Kentucky High School Player of the Year honors, first-team All-State recognition, and MaxPreps Junior All-American honorable mention while leading the Cardinals to a 22-10 record, a class A regional title, and elite 8 appearance. He surpassed 3,000 career points and has dropped over 20 40+ point games during his career.

Pacific is banking on Keathley’s immediate impact. In a notable move for a true freshman, he is set to sign a two-year deal, underscoring the program’s strong belief in his ability to contribute right away in the backcourt.

Smart, brings a championship pedigree 13 national championships in Canada during his tenure at Carleton University, along with multiple conference titles and Coach of the Year honors. He has developed numerous pros and served as an assistant with Canada’s senior Olympic team, contributing to strong international showings. Canada finished fifth at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a roster featuring a record 10 NBA players.

Smart led the Tigers to 18 wins last season and finishing right outside the top 100 nationally in the NCAA net rankings.

Pacific fans have reason to be excited about the arrival of a dynamic, versatile scorer who can fill it up from all levels.

“One of the biggest things is Coach Smarts belief in me being able to play right away. Coach wants to win and I want to win. Gonzaga has always run the WCC. Pacific is changing that and I know will be hanging banners and cutting down nets and making a deep run in the NCAA tourney. Coach believes in my long terms goals of being a pro and he wants to help me reach every goal together.”
