The Biden administration spent over a year negotiating with Hamas, with the most intense stage of negotiations taking place over the past 96 hours. Biden spoke today to Netanyahu, who thanked him for 44 years of knowing and working with each other.

When Biden met with Trump at the Oval Office after the election, he made sure to involve Trump’s team in the negotiation updates, as Trump's team would be responsible for implementing the ceasefire stages. In recent hours, Trump's team has collaborated well with the NSC team, for which the Biden administration is thankful. They will now implement the stages put together by President Biden last year and approved by the UN. Hostages will be exchanged for Palestinian prisoners on Sunday, Jan. 19. The elderly, women, sick and wounded will be released first, followed by soldiers in the second stage. Civilians will have freedom of movement in and out of Gaza.

As of now, Hamas has been solely taking refuge underground and is a shadow of the organization it was when it attacked Israel on October 7. Practically, Israeli forces can operate anywhere in the region.

The media has repeatedly tried to point to Trump as the one who promoted this deal, which, given the timeframe, is not an accurate notion.
