“Who’s the better player, 2011 Djokovic or 2026 Sinner?”
Querrey: “2011 Novak Djokovic is for sure better than 2026 Jannik Sinner.”
Isner: “Djokovic had a 10-1 record against Nadal and Federer in 2011. And even 2026 Djokovic beat Sinner in Australia.”
🗣️Jimmy Connors on Novak Djokovic:
"People need to stop telling Novak he should retire. He's the only one who can make that decision. Nobody should try to take away from him something that he loves. He also doesn't need to please any of us who are just spectators. If he steps on the court and he feels that he has done everything he needs to in this sport, yet he still wants to continue playing, we can't ask for anything more than that."
Novak Djokovic says his Grand Slam results are not good enough for him given who he is:
"I reached 4 semifinals last season. This year I made one final and one semifinal. For the vast majority of players that would be a very good Grand Slam season, but for me it’s simply not good enough. Because I am both blessed and cursed that I am used to something of the highest degree in terms of results and achievements.
I always have the highest expectations for myself. It’s kind of that internal battle of what I have been through for over 20 years of my career, what the goals were, the expectations and trying to also balance it out and trying to be a bit more humble in that sense.
Tennis has given me everything I have in my life and has opened opportunities to become who I am. At the same time of course there is always a question of how far do I want to keep pushing, what I want to play, how I want to play, etc. I try to take it one day at a time and see how I feel.
I don’t have any pressure and no one is forcing me to play. I do it because I really want to and because I still can produce top level tennis. Let’s see what’s the future holds."
Interviewer: "Do you feel like you can continue anymore or not?"
Novak Djokovic: "You're wrong. I don't agree with your opinion. I'm always competitive and give my best. Only I know what I go through internally and what it takes to still play at this level. Of course I wanted to win Wimbledon. That's why I still push myself. But I have to accept when I don't win."
When Novak Djokovic made his Wimbledon debut, Sinner was just 3 years old and Alcaraz was 2.
21 years later, he’s competing with them where it all began.
That is the greatness of Novak Djokovic.
Watching this man play tennis is a privilege.
Three Grand Slam champions and home hero Arthur Fery complete the line-up.
