🚨 “I Lied On Video”: Pak Hockey Captain Admits Sydney Ordeal
Ammad Shakeel Butt has admitted he falsely claimed everything was “fine” during Pakistan’s recent Australia tour. He says he was pressured by team management to protect the country’s image
During the FIH Hockey Pro League leg in Sydney, players were reportedly left without hotel bookings due to unpaid bills by the Pakistan Hockey Federation. The team waited 12–15 hours with luggage, struggled for food, and later had to cook, clean and wash dishes themselves, even on matchdays. Pakistan lost all four matches
Butt says management repeatedly misled players about funds, while the Pakistan Sports Board claims money had been released
This is a good snapshot via @livemint of how the AI chip boom is likely to play out in 2026.
• Scale: Global AI-chip sales crossed $400bn in 2025 (record year). 2026 could push $500–550bn, making it even bigger.
• Nvidia still leads, revenues doubled YoY. But supply constraints, costs, and competition are rising.
• Hyperscalers are building in-house: Google (TPUs) and Amazon (Trainium & Inferentia) are rolling out custom chips to cut costs and reduce reliance on Nvidia.
• Competition widens: AMD’s big GPU push in 2026. Broadcom designing custom AI silicon for cloud giants.
• Hidden chokepoints: HBM memory (inference is memory heavy). So SK Hynix, Micron etc quietly win here. Power gear, turbines, grids for data centres also hitting physical limits.
• Capex shock: AI is no longer asset-light software. It’s heavy infra with chips, power, cooling, land.
• Margins at risk: Custom silicon plus crowding may compress profits. 2026 as a possible investment cycle peak.

India’s oil imports rose 2.4% despite subdued global crude prices, but the overall import bill fell 12% as cheaper crude, lower LNG prices, and softer product values offset higher volumes. Import dependency remains high, but a lower bill eases trade‑balance pressures.
India tops the @livemint Emerging Markets Tracker again. (Mint’s Emerging Markets Tracker compares 10 major emerging economies using 7 high-frequency indicators like GDP growth, PMI, trade, inflation, currency, markets.)
Strong 8.2% GDP growth, PMI at 56+, exports up ~19%, low inflation.
While other EMs juggle inflation or weak demand, India is doing the rare thing in EMs - growth + stability at the same time.
