On 1st May, my father and I were disembarking the #calmac ferry on the island of #kerrera. There were 12 foot passengers & one @RoyalMail vehicle. As the passengers were walking up the slipway from the ferry, the @RoyalMail driver roared up the narrow road, shouting ‘out the way’
@RoyalMail So, I ask @RoyalMail, is it completely fine for one of their employees to drive straight into a crowd of pedestrians disembarking a small ferry, yelling at them to get out the way? Or are pedestrians free game on #kerrera?
@RoyalMail Regarding the reckless driving of their employee, providing license plate of vehicle and time of incident. The automatic reply came back saying they would get back to me within 4 working days. Nothing has come.
The newly rebuilt Langtang village, after Nepal’s 2015 earthquake. Residents of Langtang fought to return to their homeplace, and rebuilt it themselves when government aid was slow to arrive. #NepalEarthquake2015@nomadicnumerist writes https://t.co/xDtALKaacm
That gave me hope for the future of Nepal. Big thank you to @Himalistan for publishing this story, and to the people of Langtang for sharing it with me.
Today, it’s ten years since a huge 7.8 earthquake hit west Nepal, killing thousands. Last year I travelled to Langtang, one area devastated by the event, to see how the community had recovered. What I found was a story of resilience and strength 1/2

In rural Nepal, thousands of family paid for their basic needs from yartsa gunbu. But now it’s decreasing, from both over-picking and climate change. I wrote about it in the Diplomat.

Community forests contributed to increased forest cover in Nepal, now they are struggling to operate. @tankadhakal writes a great article examining the issues:
🇳🇵🌳 Nepal’s community forestry programme saved the country from ecological disaster, but a lack of institutional support, outmigration and new taxes is excluding millions from forest access.

The Nepali government passes laws which its own Forestry department can’t cope with, threatening decades of progress. Great report @tankadhakal
This is a great piece about a grassroots initiative tackling wildlife poaching by @tankadhakal, and nicely focuses on the impact of anti-poaching laws on local communities
