NFP president Irvin Barnes claims that the ANC has agreed, "in principle", to giving his party either one or two Cabinet positions in the GNU, despite it not having a seat in Parliament. | @soyiso_maliti

John Steenhuisen (DA), 24 June 2024:
Dear Ramaphosa
Thank you for offering the DA the following Cabinet posts:
1. Home Affairs
2. Basic Education
3. Trade, Industry and Competition
4. Public Works and Infrastructure
5. Communications and Digital Technologies
6. Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment
And the following Deputy Ministries:
1. Finance (with full cabinet committee rights)
2. Energy and Electricity
3. Small Business Development
4. One other (to replace DTIC)
But we also want 2 more cabinet posts, from either:
1. Sports, Arts and Culture,
2. Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Reform
3. Public Service and Administration
Also, the DA Deputy Ministers must be similarly increased.
Update | MK Party vs IEC vote discrepancy
I don’t support the manner in which the IEC frames the MK parties allegation and of course the DA is having a go at them too.
But, the MK party knowing the beasts it was dealing with should have thoroughly prepared, explained and collated the evidence to prevent this response.
The evidence from the IEC’s website was not included in the papers.
- no images.
- nothing.
The raw indisputable evidence was not included.
What was provided was a summary of the alleged “evidence” in the papers, there was no evidence attached in the addendums.
The papers state the results are from the IECs information but do not attach the proof that it is.
In my opinion, this where the application will fail.
If specific cases were provided, evidence indicating possible “vote rigging”, they should have rather asked the court to grant as order for further investigations to eliminate possible wide scale discrepancies.
It’s impossible for a party to assess 23,000 VDs.
But, discrepancy at a few, even 100 votes per VD would have a significant impact on the election results.
100 x 23,000 = 2,300,000
Some cases I have seen have had more than 200/500 discrepancies.
As a consequence, and in my opinion, the MK party should have focused on the evidence of vote discrepancies at VDs and asked the court to:
1. Grant an Order for a full audit of the results by independent experts appointed by the parties:
- which must include the assessment of all results slips from each VD
- compared to the results slips scanned into the IECs system
- and compared to the results on each of the 3 ballots (national, regional, provincial) appearing on the NPE results locater
- and the final results for the party/ies in
AND ADDITIONALLY
2. Grant and Order that the IEC must provide all parties with a detailed incident report for all the periods during which the website was offline for national and provincial results on 31 May 2024
3. Order that as Full audit of the IEC’s digital system for the vote capturing and results be conducted by experts appointed by parties
- by independent IT experts appointed by the parties
- including an audit of any possible code changes when the IEC system was offline on 31 May 2024
4. Grant an order to specifically audit the IEC system at the Western Cape vote capture centre, and check for any code changes.
- This centre was shut down on 30 May 2024, overnight from 10pm by the IEC Chief electoral officer, Michael Hendrickse.
- He said that people were tired.
- I would include a subpoena to inspect the CCTV footage of that centre while it was shut down.
📍I am not sure about electoral court rules, but why can’t the MK party or any party which has launched an application / motion subpoena the above evidence from the IEC - IT system incident report - copy of the system or codes from the time it was offline to when it was back on-line - and cctv footage …? 🧐🧐
