On March 22, 2025, 17-year-old Brazilian-Palestinian Walid Ahmad — arrested from the West Bank town of Silwad, northeast of Ramallah, in Sept. 2024 for allegedly throwing stones — collapsed in the yard of Israel’s Megiddo Prison, where he had been held without charge for about six months.

Doctors said he struck his head as he fell. Fellow detainees said they screamed for help but guards did not respond. Walid was eventually taken to the prison clinic, where he was pronounced dead — the first child to die in Israeli custody since October 2023.

An autopsy observed by Dr. Daniel Solomon at Abu Kabir Forensic Institute revealed severe weight and muscle loss, untreated colitis, scabies, dehydration, and signs of prolonged starvation and medical neglect — malnutrition was deemed the likely leading cause of death.

👉🏼 Almost six months since his death, Haaretz reports that Israel is still refusing to return his body to the family, blocking a proper burial.
