the thing is, $90 a year will never stay $90 a year.

on top of the $90 yearly for rent cheap hardware, you’ll probably need xbox game pass at around $20 a month. and even then, if a game isn’t on the service or you don’t have the license for it, you’re fucked, you need to subscribe to another service.

Imagine being a poor college student. You want to play games with your friends. You don't otherwise have any hardware yet.

You can either:
A. Spend thousands of dollars on a PC
B. Spend (nearly) a thousand dollars on a console + games
C. Spend ~$90 to cloud stream games for a year.

Which option makes the most economic sense?

Very skeptical of a 90% utilization rate for this. Tibia (it had public stats) worldwide has an ~70% peak to trough variation and given servers would have to be very regional for tolerable latency even 25% is probably hard to crack.

Maybe with very heavy cost incentivization for off peak it could be a bit higher, but it's almost back to the same problem.
