Sometimes the person you’re arguing with online is a paid agent whose job is to set the frame, not win an argument. The frame matters more because claims are disposable. A frame shapes how you understand the issue and how you talk about it.

A frame tells you what the argument is about before you ever start arguing. It decides which questions get debated, which assumptions pass without scrutiny, and what never gets discussed. So you can “demolish” someone with facts and still lose if you accept their frame.

That’s why states and powerful interests pay to seed frames. If they can get you arguing inside theirs, they don’t need to win. They need enough people to carry the frame for free and keep everyone arguing inside it. Once that happens, the propaganda no longer needs the propagandist.

Look, the debate is often just bait. Setting the frame is the real goal for propagandists.

You know, after talking with @ChristianHeiens and getting some recommended reading, there’s a lot I think that can be said about Carl Schmitt but I think it’s really hard to argue with this quote of his

“There are extreme cases where the laws become inadequate even to their own preservation, and where the universal resource is a dictator, or martial law.” - Schmitt

These times do exist, and that time may very well be now that we require martial law to preserve us, and regardless of who actually said this, the words themselves do ring true. Sometimes, you do need a dictator to preserve what truly matters.
